Thread: Cutting grader blades

  1. Default Cutting grader blades

Ok so i was wondering what is the best way to cut grader blades. Coming up starting a project that will take many cuts. Was using a old chop saw but it takes forever so i was wondering if there was a better way. These cuts also need to be weldable without too much grinding. Thanks.

1st choice, plasma cutter. Second choice, band saw. What size grader ?

I have cut down a bunch of blades and buckets. I prefer plasma but on some big cutting edges I use o/a and clamp a piece of flat stock for a straight clean cut. The "blade" being the rounded structure I use strap steel that is clamped or tacked as a guide and use a plasma. I watched a farmer use a saws all but it took hours and a ton of blades. I would say a portable bandsaw if your working on a garden tractor grader but have never worked on any that small so thats just a guess.

ok. Ill just take the blades to school and use the plasma there then. We got a band saw there too but dont think it works. Im just cutting them to length and making a big box wedge out of them to put on a log splitter. My guess was either plamsa or a slow cut saw would be the best. At home only got chop saw and o/a and partner quickie saws which might be the best yet. Im not sure. My uncle tried o/a on one and just make a mess so went to chop saw but it takes forever so going with plan C now.
