Thread: Got my DX200, water cooler and WP20F Torch

  1. Default Got my DX200, water cooler and WP20F Torch

Well after much deliberation, and looking at used "blue and red" machines, I decided to order a new DX200. I aslo ordered the water cooler and the wp20f torch.

The welder came yesterday and I already had the argon, filler rods, and consumables ready, so I went ahead with the stock torch and started welding. Its been 15 years since I picked up a tig torch and then it was only for stainless, I had never even attempted aluminum.

I made a few beads on some carbon steel I had laying around and they looked great, so I dove right in on aluminum. I started by just running beads across a piece of .070 aluminum sheet metal and after getting the settings adjusted these are my first 2 beads of aluminum welding.

I then went to welding a fillet weld on T joint and quickly realized its not as easy as I first thought lol.

The little machine has amazed me so far, and today the cooler and new torch came in today and I fell in love all over again. I will eventually get the hang of aluminum, but the way it welds carbon and stainless is amazing to me. I ordered the steel today to build a 2ft x 4ft welding table and I think I will tig every bit of it.

Anyway, sorry for the rambling but thanks for a great forum and for an awesome machine so far, look forward to learning....

    thanks JB

JB,,life woudn't be much fun if we didn't/couldn't get excited about something,,,,beads looking good,,,seems you still know how to do it even after 15 years.

Enjoy the new toy, have fun,,,that's what it's all about.

Anyone here using a Miller Elite (non digital)?
I bought a new one last week and after getting flashed several times and having it lighten up twice in the middle of welding I'm starting to get concerned.
I've moved the settings all over and it doesn't seem to change anything. I called Miller and they offered to send me a new lens 2nd day air and I may do that but wanted to check here first to make sure I'm not missing something obvious..

    Thanks JB

I do, it's a pretty good helmet, but it has a tough time with low amperages

sounds like the battery could be weak. have you had the helmet below freezing for any length of time?

I have had the helmet for less than a week, in my house, batteries were replaced with brand new miller batteries before I left the LWS.

You shouldnt have any issues with the digital....I spoke with Miller today and there sending me a new lens and said if this didnt work I could pay 34 dollars and get the digital lens. The digital has an X mode setting so you can weld outside in the sun without the lens changing but senses electromagnetic pulses from the welder instead of arc to initiate change.

On the flash. Make sure you have the sensors pointed at the torch and filler point. Are you welding around anything that could block one of the sensors? You might need to keep the helmet in tight to the weld.

On the beads. I would run up the post flow and at the end when you let off the trigger (or pedal), keep the torch over the end of the weld and let the gas finish it off (protect and cool) for a nice clean last fill.

Hey Guys just an update on the flashing issues with my elite welding hood, I contacted Miller and explained the issues, they overnighted a lens to my LWS and I picked it up the next morning and it works absolutely flawless now, I just had a faulty lens.....Kudos to them for there awesome customer service.
