  1. Default New tig hobbyist: What abilities will I gain with a PowerTig 200DX over a 185 micro?

Hello, I have been MIG welding as a home hobbyist and having a lot of fun. I know in the future I will need to weld thin sheet metal and aluminum and cromoly so I want to go ahead and get a TIG. I thought I had decided on the PowerTig 200DX until I read that the 185 micro will be 110 volt and 220 volts in a few weeks. The portability appeals to me, but it is not really clear to me what abilities I will lose if I buy the 185 instead of the 200DX. I don't think I will need to weld anything over 3/16", but functionality is more important to me than the price difference. I know the 185 doesn't come with a foot pedal, but what will be the difference in capabilities?
Thanks for any advice you can give a noob.

It doesn't come with one, no, but you can get one fairly cheaply if you buy it with the unit. The 200DX does have more duty cycle, but the 185 is quite capable, and we have a few units with dual voltage capabilities so it will run on 110V. The performance of the 185 on aluminum is a little more adjustable than the DX.

What performance is more adjustable with the 185 over the 200 for aluminum? Just curious.

Any day on a motorcycle like this that ends just needing parts and labor is a good day.
