If this is true then I don't see any reason why you shouldn't get the 200DX. Likewise, if the pedal pot is not a problem and they haven't updated the machine it is still a good buy for the bucks.
Good to know ... thanks ... I had already made up my mind that this is the next upgrade I want to make to my shop ... looks loke a super unit and I'm really looking forward to using it.

Sorry to resurrect this thread but what kind of voltage and current are going through the pedal? Specifically, the PowerTig 185 models?
Is it OK to want to break something just so that you can weld it back together?

I guess if you have a welder with up slope, down slope and pulse, you might not ever need to control the heat with a pedal. Unfortunately, if I get an AC TIG welder, it won't have those functions so I'm checking out pedals. Want to know what voltage is going through them and how much current.

Thanks for the hand drawn diagrams you posted earlier in the thread. Been looking to find out how the resistance behaves with the pedal movement and your drawings were very helpful. Might print them up and pin them to my wall until I get everything sorted out ... LOL.

Virtually no current, as it's just signal processing. The voltage could be anywhere, but probably low 0-12 or 0-5 for most digital circuits these days.

Well I don't know for sure... Just a guess.... Between the potentiometer and the size of the wires it cannot be much more than an amp or so.

Got plans for Tiggin near the pool????

Yeah, over at CGC's. Didn't you get the invite? Heard it on the grapevine.

My pedal has the same or similar issues. Would work sparaticly, but never at full amprage. I've had my 250EX about a week. At 125 amps i get 7-29 amps. Now won't strike an arc, just a high frequency "arc" dancing all over the place, throughout the pedal range. Torch works great @ 4t and 2t but harder to fill craters.

The foot pedal will only work in 2T. Make sure it is there when you plug it in.

You say that to everyone.LOL. But seriously i tried the switch on the power source several times. Also the tungsten, settings, gas, different cup sizes, new collet and body, unplugging the pedal and plugging it back in. Sometimes it will hold an arc but it never goes past 29 amps when set at 125.

I just opened my pedal and the black gear on the shaft that turns the pot was slipping. Tightened the set screws and it works great now. the shaft is completely round and the set screw has no leverage. I think this might happen a lot. I'm gonna take it out and grind a land on the shaft, hopefully I won't break anything.

If you search the forum there are a number of foot pedal mods. I don't use a pedal, so I'm lucky there. But for everyday use, you might want to pop it open and add a little strength to it. Should not hurt anything.
