I bought a bag of desiccant at HF and just filled the bowl of the little filter that came with it for a while.



Then I finally filled a pipe with some, put screens in the end and added the quick connects to make something similar to what HF was selling at the time.

If the desiccant is priced right, that's a low cost best way to go. Might see if my HF sales it like that. Do not recall seeing it. Since I drop the air at the back of the cutter, maybe go with thick 3-5" PVC as a test run.

I use the little pre-made ones now and they work great and can not beat the price.

The one review was a guy using them for all his air tools. They cut the air a bit, so only use it at the plasma right at the back of the machine.

The pipe-type desiccant holders from HF are no longer carried. I got mine just before they closed it out. Don't know why they don't carry them anymore because they don't restrict air flow and work very well. The pipe one by redbeard is a functional duplicate of the HF one.

Not sure if HF sells the blue desiccant in bulk anymore. Couldn't find it with a quick look at the HF website. It was easy to switch out and dry by the fireplace for a couple of days. Then it was ready for the next switch out depending on torch use and humidity.

The little in-line ones, #68215, restrict the airflow A LOT. Maybe the PP70 needs more air but the drop was in the 30psi range when the torch was switched on. And it was attached in-line to the water separator on the back of the back of the machine.

The Motorguard one seems to be the choice of those who use plasma cutters a lot. I'd probably go with that system if the desiccant one fails for some reason. It is a bit pricy until you start going through consumables in a hurry. Then it makes much more sense.
