Thread: electrode holder

  1. Default electrode holder

Does anyone keep the elecrode holders that come with the powerarc on them. I really like that style cause it feels real good and dont get hot and holds a rod real tight but for lots of welding it just takes to long to switch rods. So to take that holder off do I just enscrew it untill it separates or what?

I prefer the Lenco (clamp type) instead of the bernard (screw head), the clamp type doesn't look as nice as the Bernard, but it doesn't leave you with a rod stuck and melting before your eyes, sqeeze the handle and you get a quick release. The clamp type looks old school, but it does the job for me.

Are you talking how to remove the clamp?

I second that on liking the clamp style. Like the old clamp style we used to sell. I still use a couple of them, red but they work fine.

Nothing like trying to show someone 6010 for the first time with that screw head. The flux lights right up. New stick please.

Also, with the clamp style you can get angles without bending the rod and cracking the flux up. Some people swear by them, I swear at them.

You can adapt a clamp style without a lot of work and they are very in-expensive. Google stick electrode holder. Or check out arc-zone.

yeah. I dont like the screw heads for that reason too. I put a new clamp one on my lincoln while back. Those ya just take some screws out. But to take the one that tightens down on it off do ya just keep unscrewing the head till the handle comes off or what. I most definatly like the old clamp style better for long many rod welds. But i like the feel of the screw head ones better but they just get anoying.

I was pretty new to welding when I bought my 250EX and it came with the screw head. I was totally confused and it took me a few minutes to figure out you unscrew it.. lol. After using it a few times my thought was This Sux! It's cool looking but just a hassle. I will be replacing it with the clamp style

now im on the total opposite side of this. i will NEVER use a clamp style. after using the screw head for years now changing rods is just one fluent motion.
