Thread: dinse connectors

  1. Default dinse connectors

Ok so I thought I found the right dinse connectors for my powerarc 200. Got them and they didnt work. it went in the machine and fit fine but wouldnt turn right. It turned a bit then stopped and wouldnt go any further but still loose. So everlast what is the official dinse connector that you use that will fit these machines. I want to be able to get the right ones this time.

The one I got from CK felt like it wasn't going to turn the first time but I cranked it a little harder and it turned all the way to lock. After that first time it fits perfectly but feels tighter that the OEM one.

So where did they come from then. Also do you remember the numbers of the dinse also.

There should be two numbers separated by a dash on the side of your oem dinse (mine says 35-70) we'll need that to pick the right one.
CK uses a couple different hose connections inside the dinse for their cable size specific to their torch/cable. If you're getting a different brand we'll need to know the fitting size on the machine end of the cable.

Well its just the simple 1/2 inch or actually .508" dinse. Do you still need the numbers on the dinse connector itself.

I thought it was a lenco international type connector. But it didnt work. Maybe I ordered the wrong one though I just dont know.

Which torch/lead ? Gas or water cooled ? The new dinse has to have the right connector for your lead.

No its for the powerarc 200. A arc only machine. So it is just the solid dinse type. Ive had a devil of a time finding the right ones.

Sorry about that, I'm easily confused. Everlast should have the one you need if you call them. They have lots of parts they don't advertise.

Haha its ok. I might just call tomarrow and find out what type the dinse are and if they know of a good place to get them.

    It's going to be typically listed as a 35/70 or a 70.

Ok. Ill look for that. I thought it was a 50. Is that in international type or regular one.

Our original units were a 50....
The diameter is the same, the pins on the 70 are longer. 70's will fit 50's with a little pin stickout...Some Dinse 50's will fit ours though...not sure why.

I tried a 50 but the peg on it was too long it seemed. So I should go with the 70 then? Also I havnt been able to find a female connector that fit it. So my plan is to just make some out of machine recipticals I found that should work.

Just received my 225lx replacement and none of
my 1/2" connectors would fit. So I removed about .020 off the
pegs with a file and now they all fit.

So I could just file them down to fit. I ordered them from weldingsupply.com and it makes me mad that they didnt even send 2 dinse when the receipt clearly says I ordered a set of them. So I might as well send them back get the 70 and I guess order 2 separate ones this time along with another thing that I didnt get that I thought I ordered 2 of but only got 1

Does the socket on the machine measure (.500) and
the dinse connector measure (.500)? Or do you have something
    different

My new 200 DX has the larger DINSE while my old ThermalArc 250 uses the smaller DINSE. I want to have the option of using my nice little swivel head water cooled torch on my 200 DX so I set out to make a short pigtail with a large DINSE male and a small DINSE female connector. Couldn't find the small female connector locally (looks like they may be available mail order), have a lathe and some brass rod scrap so I made up an adapter. Probably a lot of easier ways to make the connection but it was an interesting little project.

Using the lathe, how did you make the cutout for the lug in the female side, and how did you machine away the extra material around the lug on the male end?

On the male side after turning it down to leave a "ring" for the lug I made up a hook type cutter that mounted in the carriage. I moved the carriage across while advancing the crossfeed to give a horizontal cutting action something like a metal shaper.

The female was done in a similar way but I'd puzzled a bit about how to machine the internal notch that the lug on the small DINSE twists into to lock it into place. I didn't want to cut that notch from the outside although that would have been quicker and easier. I ended up making the female socket as a separate externally threaded piece so I could machine the groove the lug slides into and cut the notch on the outside. That "insert" then threaded into the main piece with the large male DINSE giving it a nice clean look. I've got another picture or two that would show that detail if my explanation isn't clear.

I'd read about folks using the lathe as a shaper in that way to make keyways, etc. but that's the first time I'd tried it. Worked very quickly on the brass. Most of the fiddling was taking all the measurements and working carefully enough to get it right the first time. I'm just a hobbyist so I work for free :^)
