just bought a everlast wp20 couple questions!

hey guys, I got a WP 20 size torch from everlast to go with my 225lx. figured it could only make my learning curve easier to have the smaller torch. I have two little issues with the torch and they are both with the consumables kit that it comes with.

The kit comes with two different 2.4mm tungsten Collets. neither one fits right. one is smaller in diameter that I'm guess might go with the short back cap as it is too short/small to work with the long back cap. when I use the bigger collet the back cap only gets about a quarter of a turn before it tightens. Anyone else had fitment problems with the WP20?? what did you buy for consumables to go with it and how did they fit the torch??

my other peave is that the consumables kit comes with only a 2.4mm collet and only #4 size cups. I figured I would get the same array of consumables i got with the 225lx. at the very least that I would get a set of consumables that could be used together. I don't believe there is a scenario out there where a #4 cup is used with a 3/32 tungsten.

You don't screw the collet body all the way in...Same with other brands I have used. As for the cups/collets? We are selling a torch with standard and locally available consumables. This torch is not made by the same factory, and does not come with the same consumable assortment...plus we "give" those as part of the starter pack with the welder, not the torch. Most companies, you buy the torch, the cable, and each and every piece you pay for, including consumables. We get a lot closer than that. But rest assured your 20 series should interchange with locally available consumables...Or you can buy them from us in our multipiece kits.

I also bought the #20 torch from Everlast... I don't have any problems at all. I also buy all my cups/collets/bodys at the local welding store and they work perfect.
This Torch was almost too small when I first got it because I was used to the torch that came with my 250EX.... NOW, I love it!!

My WP20 came with a welder, it only came with a 2mm collet ( not much use in the USA )and 5/16 cup, I had to get other sizes locally. The collet body does screw in tight. The same collets work with the long and short back cap.

ahh, I never thought to loosen the collet body. on the big torch that came with my 225lx, I didn't have to do that. I knew that it was specified as a "small" consumable pack, I was just dissapointed that I wouldn't be able to lay any arc with what was supplied out of the box. by the time I get home from work my LWS is closed.

Call your local welding supplier, and tell them what you need. Most will take a CC number over the phone (or charge it to your account), and leave it outside the door somewhere safe for you to pick up later. Many also open up much earlier in the morning as well, say at 6:30 or 7, depending upon the season.

If you examine the torch head, you can see, the head is machined with threads through and through. The collets bodies are sometimes over machined a little, and allows an extra turn or two. Just let it hang loose. Once you tighten things up, it will hold fine.

I've done that once and I try to make it worth their time, who wants to work on Saturday!!?!

You need to change collet bodies and collets for the different tungsten sizes, unlike the WP-18.

Ray with EverlastAlaska.com has a Wp-9/20 (N13 size) kit that will make you really happy with our WP-9 or WP-20 torches.

All the sizes most need (1/16 3/32 1/8 and #5 #6 #7 cups) and qty (2) 4" to 5" 3/32 2% thoriated come in the kits too. If he still stocks them. Also a short and long cap. I wish we stocked them.

Part number 13NST-20P I think.

If you order from Weldingcity. Make sure you tell him 13N Series. They are cheap (cost wise) too. Just Ray has it all in a nice kits, rather fight the welding city site if you are not quite sure what you need.

mark, I wanted to let you know there was plenty of thread to back the collet body out a turn or two and get the back cap threaded in nice! thanks.

I will definitely look around online for the torch supplies as I've been telling myself I need to place a big order of filler, tungsten and now torch consumables!

I like the ck wedge collets http://www.arc-zone.com/index.php?ma...oducts_id=8753. They fit a little better with the collet body screwed all the way in, the tungsten locks just as the back cap o-ring seats.
They're turned out of brass so I think they'd be hard to wear out.

No tungsten, though. Too much msds record keeping for now. If you sell tungsten, you have to have msds on file and make it easily accessible. I used to work with MSDS when I managed a farm that worked with EPA certification of chemicals, and viability trials with all the major seed companies and it's seriously tight on regulations. A lot of companies carry tungsten, but slide through without meeting the requirements. I don't want to be on the receiving end of the msds police. It can get nasty.

In reality tungsten is so cheap, it is better to buy it locally. The shipping alone can nearly double the price. I can buy it for less than 20.00 for a ten pack locally.
