Thread: Alternitive Torches - PowerPlasma 50

  1. Default Alternitive Torches - PowerPlasma 50

Hello I had just gotten a PowerPlasma 50 with the S45 Torch, and I was wondering if anyone would be able to direct me to some other torches that would work with this machine? As I was looking on the Everlast site for consumables I noticed that the dual electrode tips that they sell will not work with my machine. So what torch would work with those consumables? Also am I correct in assuming that whatever torch does use them does not have a pilot arc?

    Thanks for the help!

The S-45 is an excellent torch and consumables are widely available. The pilot arc torch is a contact start pilot arc with a special voltage spike to jump the gap. The torch creates a pilot arc from internally moving the tip backwards via air pressure.

The "other" torches you see can be a pilot arc torch but use high frequency to start and have no moving parts. It won't fit or work correctly. The "dual" tips torch electrodes typically burn quite quickly. The electrode in the s-45 is tungsten and should last unless maxing out current.

Any "contact" start torch might be able to be adapted. But you'd need to assure that the threads were the same.
