Thread: mig 205p

  1. Default mig 205p

I bought a mig 205p and a pp60 plasma cutter on dec.2 2011 got it 4 days later,The plasma cutter didn't work right out of the box, sent it back and they sent me another,I got it working after about and hour of fooling with it, It works now.The mig is another story, first they forgot to send the regulator, But I couldn't get it to work right talked to
Ray and Mike but still wouldn't work, Also have spool gun for aluminum that I couldn't get to work, Sent it back to Everlast Canada on dec 16, they had it on dec 20 and now I set and wait, I have phoned three times and each time they tell me they have to do more tests on it to see whats wrong with it before they can send me another or give me back my money, So when it sounds to good to be true I quess it is,I'm going to go and buy a blue or red so I can get going on my progect. And easy way to loss 1250.00 dallars, so mush for Everlast.

    Ernie,
MOST of the customer reported problems are operator caused. If they are asking you to make tests, then they have a reason. But it also sounds as if you were caught in the holidays. Duncan was out until nearly Christmas at our factory, and likely was catching up as well. Everlast Canada, is known for its service. Anyway, we rarely if never have issues with the MIG. It sounds as if you had issues making it operate..."Fooling" with a plasma cutter for an hour to make it work isn't sounding right. It will either cut or it won't. Worst case, would be the points out of adjustment....and that takes less than 10 minutes...

As far as making it work right? Please explain the details. This is what the forum is for.

First i think we need to straighten out some of the facts here.
You initially talked to me about the Spool gun being defective and we sent a new one ( turns out when i received your Spool gun it was woirking fine ) you then said no power to the unit and you where very unhappy . AT THIS TIME YOU WHERE ASKED IF YOU WANTED A REFUND ., you said no you wanted a working unit.
we sent you a prepaid label and you sent the unit out to us on the 20th Dec . because of Christmas we received your welder on the 29th.
First thing i noticed was 1 the unit powered up and 2 the switch position was in stick mode not Mig . I immediately called you about this to ask and go over just what issues you where having as i assumed when you said no power you meant no powering on of the welder.
We had new Year over this time period but i ran it with solid wire and ran the spool gun . You told me you used 035 flux with no gas
So i told you OK i would retest and give it a good run on Flux ( this was testing it yesterday afternoon)
I pulled 2 other units out to use as Benchmarks just to make sure everything was good.
all three where pretty well the same although to be honest the last one i tried felt a little nicer somehow . Not really sure why but it just did.
I did have a couple of differences to your set up but i doubt it would make a huge difference
    1 I used Flux rollers
    2 I used 030" not 035"
( one other thing all welding with Spool gun Solid wire and Flux done inside not outside ) Forgot to ask you where you where welding
As for the Spool gun Welding Quality we discussed this and i told you that while the Spool gun is So So in welding there is no way you are going to come close to the same Quality of welds as you would using TIG ( i do not even want to say it is OK because the finished look is very poor in comparison )
You presently have the replacement Spool gun as it was sent out previous to this and all testing on this and the other 2 units where done using your original Spool Gun and the Flux was run through your original Mig gun .

The plasma is working fine It is the mig that i have the prblem with, I was using flux core but sounds like they are not made for that. I do most of my welding outside .so using wire and gase dosen't work that well. But if it is my fault that it isn't working right then tell me, don,t just but off telling me you have to run more tests

I am glad that Duncan keeps his records straight.

The units work much better with the proper drive rolls....All MIGs do.

So in other words this mig is not good for ether flux core or spool gun, can tell me what machine you have that would be good for for flux core or aluminum? as for the spool gun you say you sent.I haven't got it yet.

That's not what he said, one guy said you need the right rollers, the other guy said mig doesn't look as nice as tig, that's what I got out of it..

The flux core might have a fair bit of spatter if you are new to MIG welding. MIG will not look as nice as TIG, but can look pretty darn close with practice.

The right rollers are a must for proper wire feeding. I run flux core often as I am outside a lot. I have no issues with the MIGs I have (250P and IMIG-200). I will have a 205P in next week and I will run some .030 flux through it, but I am sure it will work fine like Duncan found.

What brand and number wire are you using?
