Thread: Super Cut 50P HELP.

    Default Super Cut 50P HELP.

I just got my Super Cut 50P before xmas.
    1. When I turn on the torch it doesn't have a steady arc. It pops and spits a lot. I have looked at water in the air line and its dry. I have even used a different compressor and hose. I do have it wired for 110V.
    2. Is it normal for the display to stay on for a minute after the power is turned of?

IF you don't have a desicant or filtered type dryer, you have water in the line...if not oil too (unless its an oiless compressor). The water trap provided with the unit is not sufficient.
Yes, the display will stay on for a few seconds as the capacitors discharge.

The Reason you get sputtering s normally one of two reasons
First and most common is as Mark states water in the line
the second reason and i have this happen to me on occasion is dirty tip electrode with possibly some particles from previous cut interfering.
Obviously there are other possible reasons but this is the easiest to check.
Starting from the begining you need to first empty the tank and blow out any moisture
Set regulator on compressor to around 90 psi
set regulator on Plasma to about 60 psi ( shold drop around 55 when running )
make sure pilot line is correctly tightened to panel bolt ( small black wire with ring eye)
clean consumables that are slightly more than hand tight in torch ( do not overtighten)
And yes you can have display reading for as much as 30 seconds after shutting off
    Cheers

Thanks for the info. I bought a mega guard m26 filter today and installed it. I am still having the same problem. I will change the consumables tomorrow I see that it is plugged up and try it. Also while using it tripped the breaker twice its a dedicated 20 amp 110. Any ideas on this issue?

Yes...It can do it. That unit can pull more than 20 amps on 110V if you are trying to run over 25 amps or so. I don't think I saw the 110V when I first posted. On 110V, performance is limited. You might drop the air pressure down to 45-55 psi.

If you have any 240v access, I recommend switching to 220-240v because the machine works MUCH better on 240v. Will it work fine on 120v? Yes. But it's not quite as, shall I say, "forgiving". I use a Campbell Hausfeld air dryer. It catches water like a magnet in metal filings.

Hope you get this figured out quick. Most of the time when the arc goes erratic for me it needs a new set of consumables. Make sure to have appropriate standoff for the cuts, don't drag the tip over 25-28 amps, because it will eat up consumables.

    Cools,

Sorry Mark, simul-posted. We both mention 110v haha, Listen to Mark, He has these things mastered.

    Thumbs up

I was thinking the same thing about switching it to 220/240. Problem is my compressor is 240 needs power also. Looks like I will be adding a sub panel. I have wanted to wire the garage this gives me a great excuse Thanks for the info.

Sure, glad to help. While you're at it running cable for 240v, you may put in a second 240v line for a "just in case". We have three 240v plugs in our 40x40 shop, we are always barking who needs the receptacle more haha. And yep I hear ya on air compressors, our's is a big 60 gal oil lube twin cylinder 11CFM @ 95PSI continuous, its 240v.

Quick update: I installed the new Moto Guard M26 filter/dryer, changes the consumables and problem fix. I took your advise and re-wired my shop and now have 2 240v outlets. Everything is working great. Cut my first 1/4 plate bracket.

Looks good! Yep, enjoy that plasma! Over all I like the torch you have over the S-45. I like things simple. Thanks for the update. Make sure you keep your duty cycle in mind when you're burning over 30 amps or so, I see you are in AZ, keep it cool
