  1. Default New Everlast owner from Texas

Hey guys, my name's Larry from Austin, TX. Just recently got my PowerTig 225LX up and running.

I've been out of the fabricating game for a couple years, but I'm getting back in as a hobby for myself. I came from using a much simpler, transformer based welder, and man, I was floating on cloud nine after being able to toy with the frequency and balance control.

I had rocky start with mine, but it was not Everlast's fault. Low and behold, after years of doing this, I got my first contaminated bottle of argon. After a little time of me thinking I totally forgot what the heck I was doing, a little visit to the welding supply, them admitting they got a bad "fill lot", and a new bottle, I had my machine up and running like a top. I guess it's like the lottery. Your chances are very rare, but people win sometimes (or lose, in my case).

I've yet to take the machine off 30% balance, with the metal I'm tinkering with. Tungsten stays nice and sharp, with just a tiny little bit of rounding on the end. The arc is nice and stable and the heat goes right where I want it. I was pumped!

Anyway, I'm very satisfied with my purchase so far. Looking forward to hanging out on the forums.

    Hi Larry,

My name is Brian, and I'm looking for someone in the Austin area that has an Everlast TIG machine who can give me some feedback, and perhaps let me have a look at things. I'm doing some legwork for my brothers who are interested in getting outfitted with good equipment, but both have families and budged considerations. Please PM me or respond here with how I might reach you. Thanks in advance,

    BK

Welcome Larry ... sounds like you had an exercise frustration ... ouch ... I've been doing business with AirGas Corp for almost a decade and they are great ... never had that happen and hopefully wont. Glad you got it squared away. I'm thinking about buying a Powertig 200DX to add to my shop. I am really looking forward to it ... the machine I use the most is my Lincoln 180c MIG I like it but I'm wanting to do more TIG ... I have a DC scratch start unit now but it can't do much so I think it's time for a real TIG machine.

The moisture in the gas does happen. Jody at weldingtipsandtricks did a DIY filter for that a bit ago (or $8 at HF you can get a smaller filter like Jody's).

It has been a rare problem, but seems like more and more these days. Mark called it first years ago and sure enough we see it on and off. I know Ray has had them as well.

I've had people in Tx and Ca with the problem. Not sure if only AirGas but I know some where.

Not that anyone is going to snort the desiccant or anything but do be mindful of any desiccant dust:

When I was younger, one of my responsibilities at my first full-time job was to replace the desiccant that was used to dry the compressed air for some machinery using air bearings. We needed to dump the desiccant into pyrex trays, microwave them until they were blue again and then dump them back into the canisters for use. I was always a bit leery of the dust and apparently I had reason to be.
Is it OK to want to break something just so that you can weld it back together?
