Default PROJECT 3 from Jerky: coffin gas tank

Yes you read that correct, a coffin gas tank. My buddy has a small 50cc chopper and he wants a bigger motor in it. So we stripped it all down. I made a deal with him so now im makin his tank. Dont ask me why he wants a coffin, all im doing is building it. Im using 1/16" sheet metal. Its about 1' long, 7" at the widest and 4" deep. I build the rough box tonight while i was waiting for the vht to dry on my taillights. Tommorrow i will make a tunnel for the bottom so it can slide down onto the frame. Heres what i did tonight...

doesnt the top have to angle up or else you would be mounting it horizontally flat, and the top frame tube coming back from the neck to the seat post is probably not flat. I am used to seeing something like this:

most of the tank should sit lower than the filler neck.

I wouldn't go too much bigger, with the price of gas these days...

Finally made it back to the shop tonight and spent some time on the tank. I cut the tunnel down and split the bottom so i can weld it to the tunnel. Once i got everything cut i drilled a small hole near the bottom so i can weld a nipple on. I didnt take a pic of the nipple yet. I will weld the nipples on first before i weld it all together. Should be all done tommorrow and ill take some more pics.
These are just after i cut the tunnel and split the bottom.

Pretty funny when you see the size perspective of it next to the tape measure. What's the plan for the wavy edges, weld the sides down and grind them off?

Dont know what you mean by wavy edges, its all flat but there are grinder marks along all the edges, maybe thats what your seeing? Didnt end uP finishing it this weekend because he didnt like how deep it sat on the frame. So heres some more pics, the nipples are just regular greese nipples, with the ball taken out.
