Thread: New 185 micro question

  1. Default New 185 micro question

Just received my new 185 micro dual voltage machine. I'd like to get up and running on 110 until my electrician can get my 220 outlet in. What plug would u recommend using until that time? The online manual only discusses 220 wiring. Thanks.

Welcome, D2junky! I just made a 110 jumper for my machine, based on help from guys here on the forum:
    http://www.everlastgenerators.com/fo...hlight=pigtail

Your owner's manual shows a NEMA 6-50 plug on the setup page- I used that one too. I went to Home Deep and bought a 110 plug, a length of 3-wire cable (black / white / green), a 1-gang junction box deep enough to handle the NEMA 6-50 receptacle and still have some clearance on the bottom, and a wire clamp that fits into the knockout on the junction box.

After that it's a matter of following the wiring guides: the 110 plug had instructions for which color wire goes where, as did the receptacle. You can get a jump on your electrician's visit by wiring a NEMA 6-50 plug onto the machine, too.

My long-term plan is to run 50 amp service to my garage, but for the moment I am running my machine from the 30 amp 220v circuit from my clothes dryer. I made an extension cord with another visit to the home deep: a dryer plug connected to a 3-wire length of cable with a NEMA 6-50 receptacle at the machine end.

What kind of work do you have in mind for the TIG machine, and what's your location?
