Thread: Introducing myself

    Default Introducing myself

I'm Wally out here in the hinterlands of Rainier Washington. I purchased a new model: MigMag 200 welder and I like it but there are a few problems I am having.

One problem is that I have burned up the tips and need new tips, but don't know where to get them. Airgas doesn't carry them anymore and I have called the Everlast importer in San Francisco - Alex, but he seems too busy to return my phone calls. I have called him about 6 times but no answer back. I'm fairly sure that other people who buy this unit will need tips also, so what to do? If I can't get tips for it I want another style welder.

I am also having a problem with the welder red light coming on in an overheating warning. Oftentimes it is when I just start welding so I am fairly sure that it really isn't overheating. What I have been doing in that case is flipping the on/off switch to reset the control.

I also bought an Everlast Supercut 50. I was burning up tips on that unit too until I asked around here at various welding shops and was told that I have to put an air dryer in the line (I think that the Everlast manual should say something about that but it doesn't). I put that in and now it is working good.

My first project was to build a welding cart for the whole set-up. I wired both units with plugs that match my current stick welder plug. I have the cart set up with two receptacles so both the mig and the cutter are both plugged into the cart and then the cart has a long pigtail to the wall outlet. I have hooks welded on all over for leads and things. Tank on the back of it. Then I sewed up a waterproof canvas cover with vents and zipper (I used to do auto upholstery).

    (what are "tags"?)

    Country gardner.

Post pictures of your unit so we can see which gun you have. There are some differences. Please also post pictures of your gun, so we can match up your parts, since it seems that the information you have given is a little off.

Alex is not in parts. Please select the parts option on the 877 number.
But if you have gotten parts from Airgas before, then they still have them. You may have to special order them, but they still do. You can check their full online catalogue and see every mig gun ever made it seems.

I will bring bring this to the parts departments attention, if you will pm me your address and contact information. Usually all you need to do is place an order and it will be shipped.

Everlast is not just an "importer". Although our units are from overseas, we offer full service sales, parts and technical support.

Also, if you would contact Mike in technical support, he can help you address any service issues you have.

I've never gotten parts from Airgas. I bought my equipment through Richard in the Seattle area and he said to contact Alex for my parts. Here are pictures of my unit. Do these help?

    Country Gardener,

    I hear you.

If it make you feel any better, once I went in to PraxAir on a Friday for an Trafimet ErgoPlus 24 gas nozzle (standard Miller part) for my PowerITIG 205. I was shocked they did not have them in stock, but they had them in another store and would ship them in for me.

I didn't get them from our (Everlast) main office (and parts warehouse) as it was a Friday and I would not get them for a few days. Basically bad planning on my part.

The next day (Saturday) I was in Harbor Freight and they had a 2 pack for $9.95. One gas shield was 11/16" full size, the other was tapered.

After 2 weeks, PraxAir called to tell me they were in. $15.95. I told them I already bought a set.

It's always best to keep spare consumables (MIG, TIG or Plasma) in a zip lock bag and stick it behind your units. When you grab that bag it is time to order.

Aosl, it's best to E-mail sales@everlastwelders.com if you want to order consumables from us, it is faster. Or call in and use extenstion 202 and Katya will get you something on the way.

PM me a phone number and I will give you call on the OC light. It's Sunday so I might be delayed calling you, but I will get back to you as soon as I finish whatever project I am on.

    Country,

This is a Binzel gun. It is a standard make gun. It can be ordered from airgas. I believe that some of the parts are interchangeable with Miller, but they are standard Binzel and are easy to get locally, if you ask for them. They should also interchange with TWECO, according to information that I have. So, I don't know if your gas store guys are jerking you around, but I believe they are.

We do stock extra parts and consumables. I think that in the last few days, your calls may have gotten lost in holidays and vacation days by one or two of the staff. You are here now and we will follow up. If you wish to purchase replacement parts from us, please order the consumable kits as they contain the parts you need in the right ratios that should keep you well supplied.

You had sad that Airgas doesn't carry them anymore...which led me to believe you had previously made a purchase from them, or at least they had carried them at one time.

Here's a link to the Airgas page of Binzel mig parts. There are other links for gun parts too, just do a search.

The updated Everlast manuals online do say to add an air dryer to your plasma cutter. Download the powerplasma manual from the website. The info is on page 16. It applies to Supercut as well.

These Mig guns are authentic Binzel brand name. We switched to them, it made the cost go up but it has been worth it in the fact they are trouble free and parts are available state side, so our customers don't have to buy from us and can source parts locally. This has been our focus so that our consumables are easily sourced locally for most of our customers. These mig guns are far from the cheapest on the market and have given excellent service. They are ergonomic and well made.

As far as the overheating, what gauge extension cord are you using to feed your welder? How long is it from the wall? Undersized wire or excessive lengths will make a welder overheat easily.

    Default thank you Mark!!

This forum makes it all worthwhile. I have a new hardware store in the area and I have gotten to know the owners quite well and he is a blacksmith/welder/fabricator and is interested in handling a line of welding equipment. I'll let him know how helpful you guys are. Perhaps he will look into your line.

I'll call you in the morning and order parts.

    Default locally

Mark - I took the stinger to both local shops that specalize in welding equipment and neither of them handled this set-up. One of them was Airgas in Olympia. They used to handle it but not anymore.

The leads for the welder - I have it set up through number 8 wire. The pigtail on the mig is number 10 so 8 should be more than enough. What do you think?

    Country,

If you will follow the link, it is the airgas site. Anything you want can be ordered through them...They are feeding you a line. The product will be special ordered, but they handle it. Or you can order it directly on line...but you can from us as well.
I have airgas here too, but TWECO is the most famous and STANDARD parts. The parts should interchange. If they say they don't deal tweco, the they are not telling the truth....In fact, I bet they have a whole section dedicated to tweco parts. Take your gun in with you, tell them you want to see the tweco parts and see if the parts won't screw in and the nozzles slide on.

I am willing to bet they just don't won't to deal with you because you didn't buy from them. You will have to win them over, but a little insistence goes a long way.

Thanks Mark. I found my mig tips and shields at Harbor Freight in Olympia and they work great. I love this welder. I'm still getting used to it. Not sure how to set all the controls.

On the Plasma cutter - Eric fixed me up with tip kits so I am all set. I have the incoming air with water filters and it is working just fine. Thank you for taking care of me!

    Default welding cart

Hey Mark - would you like to see my welding cart I made up? I'm not a pro at this, so bear that in mind. I'm attaching some pictures - I'm not sure how they will turn out as the file size may be a bit large but I could upload them another way...

The two machines I purchased were the Mig/Mag 200 and the Everlast Super Cut 50. What I did was to put plugs on them that matched my stick welder outlet in the garage. So I have the cart wired for these outlets and I just have both machines plugged into the cart and then the cart plugs into the garage pigtail. I also put a 110 v. outlet on the cart for grinders etc.

I will put the consumables - tips and things in a box on the lower shelf. I have several hooks on it to wrap leads and things. Then, borrowing from my auto upholstery days - I sewed up a waterproof canvass zipper type cover for the whole thing so it can sit out in the weather on a job if necessary. One thing I wished that I had planned in there was a place to put my helmet.

    -Wally

I still think that you will find that either a Miller or Tweco nozzle and contact tip willl fit.

That is a good cart...But, I recognize those tires...Good luck keeping them inflated. The idea is good for the oversize wheels, but those HF wheels will go flat if you even dare to look at them...To late. I just did. Better get out the air compressor....if they are still on the rim. lol.
