PowerArc 160 STH Almost ready

All pics of these units make them look small.

The pic above showing those units all lined up was the first time I was able to get a scale of their size.

So, scaled pics of your 160 would be nice to see.

I could see my self bring this and a small composite tank of argon to a job site and going to town. Whats the duty cycle on it? I haven't seen it listed yet.

Welderdude, that's pretty much my plan, except I'm just using a steel tank. We're moving our shop to a new building, so excuse the lack of decent crap to comparison with. I'm sure everyone is familiar with a gallon of antifreeze? The plastic case is very basic, but it does protect the unit so I can't complain.





I'm quite happy with the peripheral hardware. The ground clamp is quite nice, much better than what I got with a Miller T-bolt, very similar to what I have on my Lincolns.

I'm not sure if this is simply because I got my unit from Canada, but I got a perfectly servicable clamp electrode holder. No need to replace this unit, it goes straight to work.




The torch as well is perfectly acceptable.



I've only done some practice welding on scrap with this unit so far, but have no issues. S/F....Ken M

Hey Devil Dog,

I like that little case. It also looks like most of the connections are quick connects, so I would not be spending too much time wrenching before and after a job is done.

Does everything fit into that little case (regulator, hoses, torch, ground clamp, etc.)?

The little case is thin wall, no padding, definately not a Pelican or Stormcase; but a Pelican/SC alone would cost at least half what I paid for the unit, so I can't reasonably expect anything like that. Yes, all the hardware fits, barely, requires some finesse. Honestly, I'd just sling it, coil the hoses in my helmet bag and go. The case is acceptable for storage. Setup is sub-5minutes, electrical connects are small dinse, front gas is a Milton type, don't think it's actually a Milton fitting though. Control for the TIG is two pin, screw collar. Rear gas is the usual EL barb fittings; regulator/flowmeter is metric marked, steel ball type. Also comes with package of torch accessories, collets, etc. WP-17 torch. I've got a metric buttload of WP-17/26 hardware laying about, so the EL stuff is still in the package.

All in all, I'm happy with the purchase. If I had to do it again, I'd probably jump up to the I-TIG 200, but there's nothing wrong with this unit. S/F....Ken M

If you look closely, those are extra covers for Everlast, and the shape of the triangle at the top is distinctive as being ours. Additionally, as we have published, we have forged an exclusivity agreement with the factory.

If you look closely at this picture ( taken around the same time as can be seen with what i am wearing ) you can distinctly see the welders you pointed out with your red pencil mark as being Longevity are in fact Everlast ( not sure how you got Longevity out of it ) In addition if i am not mistaken all Longevity use Red fans that would certainly stand out in any pictures .

Ah yes, I see it now. I didn't blow the pic up before. I see that triangle at the top that Mark was talking about. My mistake. I'm so used to seeing the Everlast Green that anything appearing all black I associate with Longevity. Did that once before.

Actually the majority of Welders being produced over the last few weeks has been pretty well exclusive to Everlast. However there is also the Domestic brand that is produced for the home Market and Taiwan etc.
These are Grey for Domestic and Blue for Taiwan.
I always enjoy watching the testing of the larger submerged arc Welders. Here the control boards are being checked for calibration and the second picture is my little Junior Engineer his job is to be my shadow while i am at the factory.

Will their (China) laws protect a foreign company that has their manufacturing in China?

That is a really hard question to answer. I know our Factory has had Welders copied in the past and there was very little recourse for them. We actually happen to know of one Company here in the USA that has been actively trying to copy our models for the last year and a half and they have even aproached our Manufacturer trying to have our units sold to them with not only the same design but even down to the plastic bezels we use.This is of course not happening and we keep a very active presence within our manufacturing facility .
Negotiations and ideas are a constant part of our program when dealing with the Factory. I use the word " Negotiation " as many times with discusing new product development i feel i am negotiating more so than discussing for upcoming changes etc. I can guarantee 2 to 3 days of Boardroom Discusions every time i am at the Factory so as to ensure everything is going as planned and on schedule .
I was in Beijing a couple of years ago at the ESSEN Welding show and i saw the New Migatronic line for that year ( lots of show people snapping pictures and Migatronic where just amused saying this is next years look ). The fact is a lot of times they try to copy the look but this is normally as far as it goes. I suppose the thinking is that if you have the same look then they must be the same machine.

a lot of people that don`t know mutch about welders and are on e-bay right away assume if its green and kinda looks like everlast, it must come from the same factory just discounted price because it comes from a ``non brand company``

You are right. Before we went with our Green, we searched long and hard to make sure there weren't any current at least partly well known, welding companies out in circulation that used our same color or tint...6 month later, there are a flood of units that were being made in the same exact color/shade to match ours. We have even found bogus sites trying to sell "Everlast" welders, or claiming they were our "producers", when they were not nor never have been.

We quickly got away from selling a unit in any color you like because of the issues that exist in this country with color being an identifying trademark of a company, whether it is explicitly stated or not. A lot of china companies got sued from John Deere, and Later New Holland for producing tractors in the same color scheme. Never heard of them? Exactly. The big US companies won, and even the product from those factories has been banned, and will be confiscated. We did it before we were kindly "asked" to when I came on board. However, I believe I know of at least one formerly "other" color importer that was asked to change there color a long time after we did.

Quick update. I wanted to test the little unit just to see how it does. So I burned about 3lbs(just over half a 5lb box) of elcheapo US Forge 5/32 6013 I had laying about at max amperage (which the included owners manual says is 120, but seems more like 160 which is seen online) on 230v taking only as much time as it takes to chip slag and the unit just hummed along no issues. Pleasantly impressed so far. S/F...Ken M
