I'm one of the moderators on that forum. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't on your "bad list" from there.

You are correct the actual numbers for stick is closer to 153 amps output
with these being a new model i have been spending a lot of time doing the same thing as you seem to be doing with your,s .

Curse you Everlast!!!! The more I read, the more I want a model outside of my budget!
Wish you only carried one product so my life would be so much simpler.

I'm saving up for the 140st. I see the 160sth has higher output, better duty cycle and the 6010 port. I'll wire in a 220v circuit when I get the welder but what is the maximum amp output for 110v for these units? I think I've read both (about) 85 and 100 under 110v but am not sure which it is and what current will that draw out from the wall, 30(?), 20(?)

Don't know max output but mine runs 1/8" 6011 a little hot at max output on 115v(runs nice at 90% output) and 1/8" 7014 runs a little cold (both fresh Lincoln Fleetweld products). Both worked quite well welding 3/16" hotrolled flatstock brackets. Maximum output setting at 115v pops a 20amp breaker after about 15-20 seconds of arc.

If you plan on doing TIG, I'd keep saving for the 160. If just stick, the 140 doesn't seem to as significant a disadvantage, especially if you're only doing 115v input. S/F....Ken M

Looks like we are cursing you all over the forums. The 140 is a good machine, the 160 is better. Thank you Duncan... I have one on the way.

But TIG looks so tempting to learn especially if there is HF start! Curse Everlast! Curse them! They seem to know my weaknesses.
No curse. Just read your post and put what "I" would do or recommend. And appears you know what you really want.

Talk to Oleg, I know margins are low on the new 160STH but he is pretty cool. Get him early in the week, not Friday afternoon.

True you will need a tank of argon, the consumables are not that much per pound. HF start a very nice feature. If no gauge comes with it, talk to Oleg about that when you order.

On the tank, while you save up the money, find a older MIG or TIG, with a tank, on craigslist local to you. Use the saved money to buy the set and then sell only the welder. Make sure the welder if one of two big names and someone will buy it even without the tank (done that a few times myself). Now you have a tank or lower cost tank, and your money back. Maybe more money. If not an argon tank, go to LWS and swap it. That will be $35-$75 for a fair to good size tanks.

ALSO, make sure the tank is within dates and owner tanks. If not an owner tank, make sure there's someone local that can fill it. Ask them questions, make sure you note where they live .

Oh BTW Undercut, there is no 6010 port on my 160. Positive, negative DINSE, gas port and a two pin screw collar port for the trigger/footpedal. S/F....Ken M

Have you tried 6010? If so how did it perform. Waiting on mine now. Will run 220 shop and 110 on the road. Make a small conversion cable from 220 to 100.

Have not run 6010's yet, have not had the need. To be honest, 99% of what I do is going to be 6011, 7014 or 7018 Have a 115/230 conversion pigtail fabbed up, pretty much same plan as you. S/F....Ken M

    Thanks ESM

Oleg said mine might arrive today. Will try 6010. Honestly I will not run them either, but wanted to see if it can handle them. I have a big handful. Will see how it does. Maybe run it on 110 for fun too.

I'm been checking out places for electrodes. Doesn't seem to be too many in my area and of the ones here, 6010 seems to be a bit rare. Are there any real-life advantages to running 6010 over 6011?
Is it OK to want to break something just so that you can weld it back together?

Very tough rod, for root pass for pipe line welders. You will probably never use one, but, it will test an arc welding out. Why you hear mention of it. It is also not the easiest rod to burn even with a good welder if you are new to MMA.

I have stepped over the 160ATH for an hour now. Getting a hair cut and going to open the box up. Sure is a small box for us. Excited about a low voltage TIG for some reason. Not sure I will use it tonight, but never know.

On a lark, I picked up a can of 6010's the other day. All they had was Lincoln Fleetweld 5P+, which is a nice rod. Set at 60%, which should be about 95-100amps on 230v, rods ran fine, as in held an arc. The operator sucked, welding on the ground, squatting down and shaking like a dog passing a peach pit. I really need to either build or buy a welding bench at work. I'll just have to wrap it with razor wire to deter my co workers from abusing it. S/F....Ken M

Glad the 6010's seem to work for you, Mike. And yours doesn't have the 6010 connection, right?

    Hey Mike,

I'm not a big pedal user, most of our work it out of position. But I can say I was "quite" impressed with the control and the pedal. I don't like the big pedal under my foot, probably would not like the low profile one either, but it worked great. I had some 14 gauge to play with. Cut circles with my plasma jig (testing it) and then welded the scrap together.

Now if you have the 2 pin connector, that will be on/off only, no variable amps, just what is on the amp knob (more my style ). The 160STH I have (from the first shipping batch) has the 7 pin connector and works 100% perfect with our 47K standard pedal.
