    Hey group.

I served in the Marines from 1988 to 1992 as a welder, and I still enjoy welding to this day.

I came here to ask about this product, Everlast.

Is this something made in China? I wasn't really able to find it on the website. Maybe it was there.

It is not that I dislike the Chinese or that I think all of their stuff is junk like a lot of people do, but they seem to be taking over our country in every way, so I am going to avoid buying Chinese stuff where I can. NOTE: It is impossible to live without Chinese stuff, so we have to do what we can.

How are these products compared to long established welding machines like Millers and Lincolns?

I saw an Everlast that had AC/DC TIG/Stick and Plasma in one unit that I could carry around. Amazing! I imagine these use Inverter technology.

Somewhere, I read that a light turns on when it exceeds the duty cycle. I've got a small Lincoln Inverter TIG machine, and it disables the welding output whenever the duty cycle is exceeded. I let it cool a bit, then turn the switch OFF and back ON, and it works fine.

If I were in the middle of a weld and I did not see the warning light turn on when I exceeded the duty cycle, would the expensive little inverter board inside burn up, or would this device trip an internal breaker to prevent damaging my investment?

Jeez. I can't stay on here too long because this green color actually makes my eyes hurt. Too much of a good thing, maybe.

    Thanks for all the help!

Hey, Joe, welcome! I've been up around your way, used to live in Shreveport and have lots of Texas relatives. To answer some of your questions- yes, Everlast welders are made in China, and I share your "have to do what we can" thinking. The welders are inverter based, and people that have welded with Blue and Red machines compare the Green machines favorably.

I poked around your websites for a minute or two- are you still doing the nights and weekend mobile welding?

    Hey Dave,

You remember that site? That was my Joe's Welding Biz. The website is still there, but I don't do too much of it these days. I am a Software Developer (computer programmer) by day, so getting to crank up that old welding machine in the evenings was some great therapy for releasing the stress of the day.

I think my business got into the wrong crowd. They were all looking for a cheap fix, and they were hard to get money out of. Often they had me welding up cracked frames on dump trucks or the braces holding the main hydraulic cylinders to the dump truck beds. If a weld were to fail while they were on the road and Department Of Transportation looked to them to take responsibility, I had no doubt they would just point the finger at me and say, "He did that; not me."

Lately, I have found myself playing with motorcycle exhausts using stainless pipes and small amounts of TIG welding. I've got one page that has not been completed yet (>> HERE <<) showing some welding, but it will not be selectable from my site until I get a chance to wrap up my write-up.

The biggest attraction with this Everlast unit is having all of it wrapped up in one package: TIG, Arc, and Plasma. Everlast and Longivity (both from China) seem to be the only outfits doing this.

If you hit the duty cycle the machine will stop welding until it cools down. Glad to have you on the board!

I saw where you sold your Miller in the Classifieds not long ago. That must say something good about this product!

Now we just need the administrator to read the part where I politely suggest we replace the eye burning Lime green with something a touch more subtle. Silver/Gray would be nice. The other green colors are fine! It's just all that Lime.

Hey Joe. welcome to the forum. I am also attracted to the all in one package. Great for a hobby welder who can't afford to buy 3 different machines. I went to your site. Thanks for the candor regarding your part time welding experiences. It definitely sounds like you need to upgrade your clientele.

Hey Joe welcome to the forum. I have to agree with Sears anymore it went down hill when they got tied up with Kmart. I bought over range microwave and decided to let them install because of the size and weight. Well the contractor they use damaged the cabinets and its been a fight Sears says have to deal with contractor and he wants to half ### fix it. So still fighting a month later. I am done with Sears and I think you will see them go belly up in next few years.

Not remembering, actually, I clicked on your Sears link and then followed on to some of the other links. For motorcycles and exhaust systems you'll have lots of company here on the forum!

We have not had a complaint on our green color here in years. You can search the forums and see everyone was OK with the last shade. Now someone did (not me) go in recent and screw with things a bit, but that will take me some time to fix.

Maybe turn down the brightness a bit for now, or pick a theme that is not the default, or try a shade 3-4.

    Joe,

If you search our forums you will see the units are built in China. We have our QC guy go over and oversee, and I believe Duncan might be there now. Each year we get better. Also, I can assure you I am not Chinese, nor any US/Canada/UK division employees are that I am aware of or deal with, not that we would not hire someone from China.

I've owned and used Blue, Red and little blue in the past. Our units are basically the same quality when it come to welding but a lot less money. I was a customer before an employee.

I hope to work more on the forum this weekend and will see if I can tone it down. But it will still be green.

I looked for themes in the profile settings, but didn't see anything available for registered users.

That's good to know. I don't have any particular allegiance to red or blue machines, I mostly don't want some cheap Harbor Freight kind of stuff that I'd be expected to use once and throw away.

I've noticed one thing missing in the Everlast line-up: An engine driven welding machine. Yes, I see the generators. Yes, I see the multipurpose welders. Is there any particular reason why Green has not combined the two? If I'm not mistaken, there is a blue Renegade machine and a blue 304 machine that is not only engine driven, but can also be plugged into shop power to stop engine noise when necessary. They don't do anything like that with a diesel engine, however. No one does. (Hint)

Our web guys screwed up the colors and icons on the main page. I know there are 6 templates that are broken too, so maybe they killed the vbulletin theme. Everytime they do something I have to go fix it. I think they loaded tapatalk and that did it. But on my list to fix. Low priority since we are running and no real complaints.

We do not have any genset type units. We are just getting our lineup going for more commercial use. Oleg would have that answer, but I know we have nothing like that at this time.

Most of our under 30 amp MIGs/machines run fine on most 5500 watt plus generators.

Nah, I can look the variable up. Just get tired, each time they touch the site they break the forum. And no backup of course.
