Gloves?

What are the best gloves? What gloves does everyone like? Different for feeder hand?

I'm not sure about the best because everyone has different opinions. I like to use these http://www.revcoindustries.com/catal...roducts_id=651. They fit nicely, I can feed filler rod, and they give some heat resistance.

I also read that to tell a good fit of gloves you should be able to pick up a coin which I can do with my tig gloves.

I have a pair of these Miller gloves. Mostly because, before getting my own tig, I was using the one at my buddies shop and he didn't ave any gloves. When I ran out of Argon, I took the tank to swap it and tha is what they had on the shelf. they work fine, but I think my next pair will be BSX BT50's.

I have had my eye on the BSX BT50s too. I know they say fire resistant, but wonder how heat resistant they are? Anyone have experience with them?

I tried a pair each of the Tillman 24D and 1328 and BSX 24K from http://www.constructiongear.com/weldinggloves.html.

The 24K seems a bit more heat resistant, but I can't quite pick up a dime with them. I usually wind up using the 1328s with a TIG finger, they fit the best, but don't offer much in the way of heat shielding.

I use Tillman kid skin gloves on both hands and when things get too hot I use one of those tig fingers or sometimes my mig glove (heavy hobart) on the torch hand

I have had my eye on the BSX BT50s too. I know they say fire resistant, but wonder how heat resistant they are? Anyone have experience with them?

I have tried several brands for my Tig... These Revco's are the Very nice! I have several pair and they are Way better for heat control compared to the "normal" thin Tig gloves BUT, you still can work the rod between your fingers. Nice fit, nice feel and the only glove I will ever use for Tig or Mig. I even use a pair for grinding and general work.

Do not buy the Mechanix welding/fabricator gloves @ $30.00+ a pair. They lasted about a day. I just buy whatever is the cheapest. I've tried the more expensive gloves and they seem to last about as long. I have a hard time welding with the thick heavy duty leather welding gloves.

I'm with you on the cheap gloves. Walmart has an $8 leather glove that is great. Most cheap gloves have odd length fingers or the thumb in the wrong place!

I have a tillman pigskin with long cuffs that has been pretty nice for TIG.

After that I tried revco kidskin with foam on the backs of the fingers. They got a little too stiff for my liking, I find myself reaching for old beaten up tillman pigskins more often than not. When I need more heat protection, I grab a weldingtipsandtricks TIG finger heat shield. Actually, I just used one on an aluminum welding job I did today.

Next pair I buy however, am going to get the tillman kidskin, long cuff. I have used those and they are just great, nice and flexible, supple material. Tillman and revco do note make equivalent leathers by the way, their tanning processes or something must be different.

You should avoid getting either pigskin or kidskin too hot, or it kind of hardens and shrinks.

I like the tillman gloves best. I use the 1250 for stick and the 24D I believe for TIG. The 24D are great as I can pick anything up no problem only downside is the get a little tuff when they get hot, like Jake said.

(What are the best gloves?)

It depends on the amperage and what kind of welding you doing or if you have an air cooled torch or water cooled. Kidskin gloves work well for low amperage TIG usage because they're thin and flexible that conform to your hands tighter than most gloves. Elkskin gloves offer the best heat resistance but are much thicker and loose fitting which perform well for stick welding.

Tilman and BSX seem to be very popular but I like the Steiner 0260 pro-series kidskin/nomex gloves for lower amperage TIG welding because they're tighter fitting than most with a Velcro cuff to keep them in place. http://www.steinerindustries.com/cat...Pro-Series.pdf


(Different for feeder hand?)

Some people use a TIG glove for the feeder hand and a Stick glove for the torch hand but it's a personal preference that's up to you.

With no jest intended, the best glove for my use is the cheapest one I can get away with using. I have found some great deals on multi-packs of Tillman, Black Stallion and even Fastenal Tig gloves on e-bay. I am talking as low as a dollar or two a pair shipped. If excessive heat is a concern then I use one (or more) of Jody's "Tig fingers".

Can you believe it..... I use a pair of Miller's new TIG gloves and they fit the best of any glove I've ever worn. They offer two different ones these are the all black ones with a buck skin cuff.. about 80% of the time I don't wear gloves or at the most only wear one glove on my torch hand made of Kevlar. I get those from MSC and use them for most everything.. They are good for 800 degree and work well for TIG wleding.. They suck for MIG because sparks get past the open weave design. If I need better wire control on my wire feed hand I just snip out three finger tips and have great control.

I just got the same pair a few weeks ago too. They feel so great, I want to start driving to work with them on.
