Thread: My new 225lx

My welder just got here via the big brown van. Opened up the box, no shipping damage. Hooked up all the hoses. Put a 50amp plug on the power cable. The following picture are some test welds playing around with the settings.

Just a question is the fan supposed to run the whole time? As soon as I turned the power on it started running.

Now I'm off to build my first project.

I've got a 200 and the fan starts when I flip it on, I'm assuming yours is the same. Based on what I've read in other posts that's the way they're set up. Keeps it nice and cool but it is a bit noisy :-)

I believe the fan is suppose to run the whole time. Its not a fan-on-demand setup

That's the reminder that the unit is still turned on.

Its not a bug; its a feature!

By having fan on all the time , we get better duty cycle out of the unit

I actually like the fan on all the time. Its not loud at all. I dont even hear it running. I usually have the radio on anyways. Also ya have less to go wrong, higher duty cycle and its quieter than my old lincoln which is on all the time too.

I'll get use to the noise. I'm use to a quiet shop, since its only me.

So far I like this welder it has an easy user interface. I'm not use to a flow meter with liters per min that will take a little time to get use to tuning for different things.

So I dropped a piece of steel onto my foot pedal cord, it cut through it in two pieces. I will have to make some splices tomorrow. I didn't want to break my groove so I tried out the torch button. So far I like it. The only problem is since I'm not use to having a button on the torch I accidentally hit it in 4t and got arc flash to my face and eyes. This is the first time its been this strong. right away I could smell a little toasty skin. I was about 1.5' form the arc. My face is a little toasty, my eyes are throbbing and I have a headache. And my vision has a big spot and is a little blurry. That is a touchy switch.

It might not be a bad idea to go get it checked out if your seeing a spot.

Oh man I'm sorry to hear that. I was welding one day and when I stopped I realized my niece was watching me for the last 30 sec from what I could gather. I didn't even know they were over I was so worried that she had hurt her eyes. She is only 4 so she didn't know it was bad to look she just wanted to say hi. Luckily I was only welding at about 30 amps and she didn't hurt her eyes.

geezer posted up a nice rule of thumb on that not too long ago, flow in lpm should be equal to the cup size, 1 or 2 less for a gas lens, +1 for higher amps (200 or more IIRC)
Penncrest Buzzbox - Infinite amp control! Man the 70's were good.

If you are use to using a Miller with fan on demand, the constant fan noise it is a change at first. I do not desire the fan to be on all the time but the initial irritation has gone away for myself and I do not even notice it is on much when I start welding.

I remember I was doing little tack welds once without my helmet, just blinking my eyes shut and firing a brief high-amp arc, to make small tack welds. I did do quite a few of them - 20-40 or so and high amps (but brief.) I ended up sunburning my face on that!

After that painful experience, I haven't skipped out on the helmet (even for just those really quick tack welds.)

My super200P has its fan on all the time with the power on, but it's a pretty mellow noise. Really moves the air through the vents too...
