Maybe once I have a little more room I will start seriously considering it. It would be fun to do and have for sure.

I strongly believe most Males are hard-wired to want more toys ... err ... I mean equipment. I consider myself extremely lucky that I never got hooked on stereo equipment and do not have an audiophile ear.
Is it OK to want to break something just so that you can weld it back together?

Same here. I have some friends who are and won't accept less. They've spent more on stereo equipment than I've spent on cars in the last few years.

Seems like building one of these would be tough the first time but a lot easier the second. Or maybe that's just how I am

I hope I just spent my last bit of $$$ on my plasma table! I ordered my torch height control from Eagle Plasma on Ebay. The cost with shipping was $269.00. I felt this was the best way to go since I am using an Everlast Power Plasma 60C. I had a 40% off coupon left over from one of the contest so I ordered a PP60C that arrived last week. I just have to get some time to finish the gantry....

Here is the price list so far!
Plasmabot 4.0 kit with nut plates including shipping - $191.94
Probotix 4axis Monster CNC stepper motor kit including relay, 20' motor cables, factory wired, power supply, fan, and large enclosure with shipping $765.48
    2x2 tubing $429.60
Concentric and Eccentric bushings from PBC linear -$45.65
Gear Rack, SS nuts and bolts, bronze bearing sleeves, double sided tape $191.09
I spent $30.00 on stainless fasteners some that I ordered wrong or did not need.
    VBX sealed bearings $62.50
    Z Axis $280.70
    Torch Height Control $269.00

    Total $2265.96
    Everast PP60c with 40% off coupon $732.99
    Total with plasma $2998.95

I don't expect any more significant cost a $100.00 max. About the only other expenses I have are limit switches (If I use them) and one small piece of gear rack. I'm happy with the amount I have spent, I just need to finish it!!!!! I will have a 5'x8' table that is heavy duty!

yes but look at all the fun building it your self . I am going a different way on my build. to save space just using 1 rail system and making the upper arm unlach so can fold against the wall it will bolt to the concrete floor for support . a rough drawing of how i want to do it Click image for larger version.

It makes you wonder why some of these companies charge $7,000.00 for a 4'x4' table. Some of these CNC Plasma companies are ridiculous! The DIY market has lowered the prices in the last 6 months. I've looked at CNC tables over the last year and a half, but there is no way I could justify that kind of $$$ for one. I looked at the 2x2 torchmate growth series, but it was out of my price range and 2x2 was too small.

I guess one thing you'll need to be careful with is to ensure there absolutely isn't any play when the swing arm is locked and ready to cut.

Sean, 5' x 8' is massive! (to me at least)

ID:	6817would most likely have cinch bolt clamps to lock it in place since they don't give or move when tightened . yes 5 x 8 is a big table takes up a lot of room

I wondered the same Sean but they are charging not what it is worth but for what it can bring in for the owner ($). Many industries do that with equipment and parts. It will continue to happen till enough people QUIT paying so much. then they may get reasonable, but I doubt it. Everlast needs to make one available for $3500 to $4K complete or as a kit and then watch Torchmate (Lincoln) scramble to lower prices.

There are some good lower cost cnc plasma's on ebay. Matzcnc on ebay has a nice looking table, the table looks similar to some other companies; which makes me wonder if they are being imported. Precision Plasma's Iplasma table has a nice price. Eagle Plasma (lighter duty table) could have a 2x2 for $2,000 if you have a computer and plasma cutter already, and do not mind wiring up a controller yourself. ProTools has lowered their gantry significantly which makes me wonder how long they will be in this business.

Worked a little on my table yesterday and this morning. The arbor on my chop saw got jacked up so I can't cut my rails. Not much fab work left, but the most important part!
    Get one of these!

Smoker that I need to finish!

I will weld my corner tubes to this, just making sure it's square.

    These will go the front.

I also re-checked the squareness again before tacking these on (corner to corner X)

I took some time to check and see if the table was level. I laid my tube that will make up the Y axis across and checked it with a level.

I wanted to clean up the look a little and also make sure the corner tubes would have plenty of support.

I cut 12 of these and cleaned them up for a good git.

These are on the rear of the table and has the most overhang.

    View from the back.

    View from the front.

I'm getting close to finishing up the fabrication part of the table. I have to weld the up the brackets that will hold the gantry. I have to cut the rails for the X axis, mount the gear racks for X & Y axis tubes, and weld on the brackets that allow me to bolt the Y axis to the X axis carriages. After all this is finished I can move on to the electronics / computer / software phase.

That seems like the way to go. Works with everything and can work with pilot arc and high frequency or high voltage systems. All self contained and programmable.
Long arc, short arc, heliarc and in-the-dark!
