Default Projects #1 and #2 for DEC3_MAR3 from Jason: Welder Carts

I don't have much to show on these yet but there will be 2 carts. One will hold my MTS200s and the other will hold my Power Pro 256 and cooler. I know I want to make the frames similar to how donor76 did his with bending the tube but I wont be going extreme with the plate. I know that I do want a drawer in each one and will probably have a small shelve above the drawers. I am thinking that the MTS200s cart can hold my helmet but I have not fully decided what I want to incorperate into the bottom of that cart yet. Ideas??

For materials I will be using 1" square Aluminum tube as the base and 1/2" Aluminum for the rest of the frame work. The plate is 16GA Aluminum. Each cart will probably hold only 1 tank behind the welder.

Donor, Your cart has been on my mind since I found your thread here and I wanted to go that direction with my own. The bending of the tube and everything provided the details I was trying to capture in my own head which makes it worth building a cart over buying one anyways. Mine however will be made from Aluminum as I mentioned before and I have started drafting out the first cart. The two will probably be very similar. These will be similar to yours as well..

Here is the start of of what I envision..

What alloy is your aluminum tube ? Some aluminum alloys like 6061 are tough to bend 90 degrees without cracking.

For softening of an aluminum pipe in process are flexible it is possible to heat up it in a place of a bend the propane a torch.
But about the beginning it is necessary to try to bend on cold, suddenly a pipe from soft aluminum.

    Jason,specify the sizes
me it is not clear that for regiments at you will be

The only thing I would change on Donor76 cart is the size of the rear wheel make them bigger.
He put a lot of detail in his cart and it look great.

    have fun

I was afraid about the strength and if I can't bend it then I plan to just simply square it off. The plate is 16GA 6061 and I plan to use it as the shelf bases and would like to place a drawer. I thought about using it on the back side and on the side but havnt decided. I do know that I don't want to go extreme as donor did but I think his is what is making me think about using it there. The square tube for the base is 1 inch 6063 16 GA and the rest was suppose to be 1/2 inch 6061 but ended up with 3/4 inch 16ga 6061. The round bar will probably be used to hang the torches and such as is 1/2 inch 6061 round bar.
