Thread: CGCINC... Bike Rack for My Nissan Titan Utili track

Default CGCINC... Bike Rack for My Nissan Titan Utili track

I'm planning a trip for this summer and needed a 4 bike, bike rack so I made one to slide in and out of my truck.
I used 1 1/2" 16g tubing. I mad a sample of the angle I would need with some PVC that was lying around and then took that and the pipe to a muffler shop up the street and they bent the tubing to my pattern.
My Nissan Titan has the Utili-track system in the bed and I have a tool box that will slide in and out so I figured I would use the same system to make it easy to remove but sturdy enought to hold four bikes on a road trip.

Pretty simple but thought I would share...

3/8" plate block with bolt welded on to slide in the rail..... 1 1/2" square tubing cross bar..

A bolt with tabs welded on to lock in the front rail..

    Cut to size and angle..

2x4 spacers to keep the distance I need while welding..

Stainless tubing to weld in where the tires will rest...and for looks...

1/4" bar to hold the front distance..

    Start welding...

Only thing left is buying some 1"x16" Velcro cinch straps to go through the wheels and around the tubing to hold the bike in place

Nice project!, you must do a lot of biking to make up a specific stand like that.

This is a really nice design. Nice work! (I wish my Frontier had the utili-trac so I could do the same) One question for you, did you weld stainless to mild steel? If so, is there any problems with doing that (while welding) with the different temperatures, etc.?

Yes. I didn't have any problems doing it but I had to keep the majority of the heat on the mild steel while welding.... I used a 309L filler rod

Ok that's good to know. Thanks for the information. I ride mountain bikes at about the same frequency as you. I bought a Klein Palomino a few years back and it still looks like new. I don't know if that is good or bad. At any rate Happy Riding!
