Thread: Annoying "Share this with your friends" window

Default Annoying "Share this with your friends" window

Why is it that almost all forums here now have this annoying window that pops down with all the social media logos?

I don't do twitter. I don't do facebook. I don't do google. If I want to contact someone, I call them. I don't call sending them a link in a tweet "sharing". I call that annoying.

Is it possible to stop the pop down window? I like to magnify my pages and that window just takes up space.

    Other than that, great site.

I hear you... If you use IE, follow the instructions below.

You need to restrict the sharethis site.

You can solve this issue by restricting access to their site in your IE browser.

Under the Tools pull down menu, select Internet Options, then select the Security tab, then Restricted Sites, then click the button that says Sites.

In the site box, type "sharethis.com" and the site http://*sharethis.com will be listed and blocked when you click Add.

Sales dictates the stuff on the website, like tapatalk, etc.. Probably all of two people use some of the stuff. I think it helps search engine ranking or something.

It's a welding website I know, but it is what it is.

Mark, Ray, Duncan and I just moderate it. I hate it too. You have to complain to the boss or block it. Sorry.

I use Firefox too- when I looked into blocking sites the Ffox support site said to use Windows Live Essentials. Is there a more direct or robust workaround for Firefox?

Put me on the list of people annoyed by the 'sales dept's' banner. All it's doing is making me like this site less.

I've used NoScript for years. It's well worth it for Firefox users and works on all versions of FF.

    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/fir...ddon/noscript/ for Firefox Noscript.

I guess I'll just have to use Firefox to view this site. I like Chrome but so far have not been able to get a no script for chrome.

Thanks- that works well. I installed it and spent a few minutes trying to figure it out before I realized the "share with friends" banner was no longer displaying, and I didn't have to futz with it at all.

Very annoying. I doubt that a registered member of the forum would have reason to click any of these buttons anyways. Why not just make it go away for registered members?

Just load the plug-in, nothing else to do.
