Excellent work. You didn't cut any corners, and it shows. Thanks for sharing!

Wow that is really nice. I wish I could weld half that good. Stainless looks so great.

Do you bend the pipe yourself or get prebent sections and cut to fit... Even the cuts look tight. Thanks for the pictures.

Model does not matter. The hand does the welding, not the machine. All you need is a footpedal.

Cutting corners is doing it the wrong way.

Do you ever find the mandrel bend to be smaller than the unbent part of the tube ?

if there mandrel bent that should not happen. when tube is crush bent, then the bend does reduce in diamater. thats usually why mandrel bent stuff is more expensive

This was 60mm mandrel bent 304. The bend part from a 180 and a 45 was about 1mm smaller in diameter. So when I tried to fit part of a turn to a straight piece, I couldn't get a nice clean joint.
I had to blend the joints and use a brushed finnish instead of polishing.

A little trick a bender showed me when bending thin tubing he would fill tube with fine sand and cap both ends then bend then tubing wouldn't shrink while bending

That is some nice work! After you weld everything together will it bolt up easy or does welding tweak it?

It is not mandrel bend tubing...this is what I use:

It is a sanitary fitting, and has the same diameter all the way through. These are perfect.

The flanges and flex pipe gets welded last, this it to allow for proper fitment. The stainless dos shrink a fair bit when welded.

most stuff i work with is .125 wall tubing with my mandrel bender it doesn't like thin stuff tends to stretch and not stay the same size when bending .065 is thin stuff to bend

Well, if you want to buy this stuff in Alberta you will pay 2.5x what you would pay for it down south.

Awesome work! I'd like to do headers for my 240Z at some point, there are some on it now but they are not well thought out.

What are you doing to get such uniform ovals out of the round tubing going into the flanges? Your not just bending them in a vise are you? I would think that would "pinch" the mid-point on the tubing. Are you buying some pre made stuff for that?

Do you experience any heat issues with the transmission or other parts? Do you find any value to ceramic coating the hot side tubing or using a turbo heat cover in an application like this? S/F.....Ken M

Too bad all of that nice work is going to be hidden from view. Really nice job and it looks like it won't reduce under-car clearance much at all.

I'm curious about this as well.
Is it OK to want to break something just so that you can weld it back together?
