    Default PP50 read out trouble

Hi folks have had my PP50 for about a year and a half now and it has performed flawlessly . It just acted for the 1st time . my problem is with the read out . when I dial up or down the read out will go from min amps to about 22 and then read 49 . Have not had time to see if the power actually increases or decreases while cutting or if it is just a defective read out .. Is there some way I can check the read out and repair myself or is it a more in depth repair .

Had time yesterday to try the machine out ---it seems like it will give the lowest settings about 20 amps and the max settings 49 .

    Farmer,
Please clarify what is going on a little. It seems a little difficult to follow. Or you can call in to tech support to get assistance.

Sorry got pulled away from computer before I could finish ... Read out will run from minimum setting 19 amps to about 22 amps as you increase the power setting then jumps to 49 amps ( from about the 1/2 way point on the power dial to the maximum setting it never changes just reads 49 ) I have had a chance to try cutting with it and it seems that it will go to the minimum setting and maximum only . I tried cutting some 1/2 inch flat stock on the 22 amp setting and it would not cut thru ( 18 gauge was fine ) Turned the power dial to the 1/2 way point ( read out is at 49 amps ) and it will cut 1/2 inch stock .

It appears it only has the ability to produce the lowest power setting and the maximum power setting. Has worked flawlessly till now hope it is an easy fix ( purchased it in Aug of 2010 )

The machine will never cut 1/2" at 22amps ( are you saying knob at half way point is 22 or ??) I never really pay attention to the readout when using just because of the angle to me but i can have you try starting a cut on low and gradually increase the amps by turning the knob you should be able to see the difference in arc strength as you increase it , you can also hear the difference, on low amp heavy cut it almost whistles and then as amps are increased it goes away to the sound of the Arc flow and cut .
Failing that send it in and we can have our tech go over it to see what is happening.

    Farmer,

The unit is still under warranty if you want to make arraignments to send it in for repair.

If your inclined to try a fix yourself, it 's most likely one of 2 or possibly 3 things. The amp control knob itself first, or possible just the display board.

Please call me and we can figure out what to do.
