Thread: New from Indiana

    Default New from Indiana

Well a self taught MIG user. I picked up a Harbor Freight MIG about 2 decades ago. Learned how to use it and have gone through miles of wire. It has done me quite well for a foreign machine.

I was told that it would weld Aluminum and I gave it a try. I got it to work well enough to fix my broken part, but that MIG does not do Alum. Always wanted to give TIG a try. My old neighbor had an Econotig and watched him use it once. Entirely different world.

Finally thinking about getting a TIG and finding out the Econotig is not made anymore and seems to be old school with these inverter TIGs. Everyone seems to tell you spend more and get a better machine. Next thing you know you are up to 5 grand. Way to much for this working stiff... Then after doing some net searches I ended up here. Realizing I have a lot to learn.

    Welcome aboard Brian,

The Micro185 and the 200DX are nice starter systems. You have AC (aluminum) and DC. The DX takes you up a notch in power, better foot pedal control.

I think you will like our prices too.

The prices seem very reasonable. Now I am down to the options... The 200DX looks like a place to start. Not sure if a step up in machine would give me more features. From what I can tell the next step up is mostly an increase in current/capacity correct??? Besides going to a liquid cooled unit.

I've used the LX since they came out (originally 250 amps). It has a few more features and power than the 200DX. If you can afford the LX, I would take the leap, just one of my favorite machines. The EX has a couple more features and more power. It's what I use mainly now, but working for the company, I get a pretty good price break.

However, me personally, I could still be using the LX and never know.
