I worked on the Oakland Ca. waterfront, (San Francisco Bay), 20+ years as a refrigeration/container mechanic. Also worked 6+ years as a refrigeration mechanic for over the road reefers,
(Carrier/Thermo-King units). Mostly did soldering and brazing with some stick and mig tossed in. Retired a couple of years ago. I have a 250 amp gas powered ac/dc Lincoln, and a small 110/220v Lincoln mig. I wanted to start working with thin aluminum and stainless, so I started shopping for a TIG.
I am not afraid of buying used quality equipment, but I did not find anything worth shipping to my house. Older transformer welders are heavy, and the electrical load would be a bit too much for what I have available in my garage. I started shopping for an inverter welder. The U.S. made models that were in my price range did not have very many features to control welding on really thin material. The models that were suitable were way out of my budget. Since this is going to be just for hobby purposes, the cost was prohibitive to go that route.
I started reading about Everlast. I think that the thing that convinced me to purchase one was the youtube videos from Jody at welding tips and tricks. I hope that Everlast shows him some appreciation for his reviews. I have been a fan of Jody's for a couple of years. he always has good info. I ordered a PowerPro 256. I am waiting for it's arrival.
I would like to make something like maybe a solar powered water fountain/bird bath. Have the water fall down onto metal leaves and then into a bird bath. I live in part of the Mojave desert region, so having something like that outside of a window would be great for both me and the birds.
