Ok so I have been kinda wanting to start shopping for a mig but theres a few things I have read somewhere on here that I wanna know if is true or not. One is that you cant start welding with the wire resting on the metal. You have to always keep the wire off the metal when starting and if you dont you have to cycle the power. Also that the nozzle on it is ellectrically hot while welding. That also seems like it would be anoying having that because every time it hits the metal while welding it would stick on there.

Both are true for my 250p. First time the nozzle touched touched my work in a corner it burned the edge off the nozzle. Also spatter sticks to the inside of the oem torch nozzle like mad.
I replaced the torch with a 20' profax that works brilliantly and I've gotten use to the wire touching thing so it doesn't cause any problems and the machine has burn back adjustment.
Overall I'm very happy with the welder and highly recommend it.

Thats what I thought. Is there any thing you can do to stop that, mainly the cup problem without havning to change out the whole set up because I know thats expensive. Both sound very unconvienant though

I didn't see a quick fix. The tip also sits well back inside the nozzle causing a little too much stickout for me. It's also very easy to bump the extended trigger.

My nozzle (Imig200) does not stick. The nozzle has an insulator that should keep it from sticking. When the insulator is worn out the nozzle will stick on any mig gun.

While in welding class, If the wire was out to far to start welding we would just rest the wire on the side of the welding table and pop the trigger. It would burn the wire right off and then your ready to go!
Of course that's all I know about mig until I recieve my IMIG200

Pick up a tub of this or similar and it will help you alot with the spatter sticking. A tub will last a long time.

Pick up a tub of this or similar and it will help you alot with the spatter sticking. A tub will last a long time.

I've got some of that stuff but rarely use it on the new torch since very little spatter gets inside with the contact tip in the proper position (just under flush).
I clean my nozzle with a large file shank which works better than mig pliers but the spatter really stuck to that oem nozzle.

I have and IMIG200 and I start it all the time while touching the metal. Even if the tip is electrified it won't stick if you keep it a little ways away. The trigger is easy to bump, but most of the time it just barely stays on long enough to barely move the wire...unless you have the feed rate up max, but even then... If you are just using it to tack I would get the IMIG200 because it's lots cheaper and still has a tremendous amount of power. I've burnt through 3/16 with it all the way up.

So does it sometimes start if the wire is touching. And it seems that the people that say the nozzle is electrified are the ones with the 250. Are they on the 200s too or what.

Yes it will start with it touching, for me at least. I have never stuck the tip before; although I don't think that I have ever touched it to the metal.

It does have a spring like thing in between the gas tip and the gun which could be an insulator.

I will check the gas nozzle for voltage if I get time today.

I have used/owned the IMIG200, IMIG205, IMIG205P and IMIG205P (old 250). None have a hot tip and all will start with wire out.

One thing I know, make sure you rock to remove the nozzle, if you twist it it will jam up the internal spring that holds it on and can cause the tip to be hot all the time. I have a friend that did that on his 205, so I have seen it.
