Thread: Stainless Steel Android Guy

    Default Stainless Steel Android Guy

I made this little guy for a buddy of mine for his birthday. He's a high-tech guy who knows all about phone and computers. Its made from some thin stainless I had laying around. It was cut out on my CNC plasma table using the PP-50. I bend some 1/8" round bar for the supports on the back. After I welded up the supports, put a sanding disk on the grinder and polished up a little. Let me know what you think about it.

It's the Android guy. sshhhhh... don't tell Google!

I like it. Do you have a tig welder ?

Unfoltunetly no TIG welder. Just a cheap MIG welder. If you zoom in you can see all the spatter around the welds. Flux core only. I plan on my next purchase being a decent mig welder, then on to a tig welder. I heard tig is a little difficult to learn but would love to give it a try.

Default trying to get handle on tig

I like it. Does the plasma leave that clean an edge or is there grinding necessary? As far as tig welding I am finding quite a learning curve but I am having alot of fun trying to learn. The nice thing about tig is it doesnot have all that spatter. This may sound stupid but mig welding the arc seems angry but tig is almost soothing until you stop and look at your weld and go ugh there is quite a learning curve. I will get there just need more hood time.

CNC plasma cutting has the ability to leave really clean edges if you have all your settings honed it. It all depends on the quality of your nozzle & electrode, plasma cutter, thickness of material, cut height, amps and cutting speed. Being Everlast doesn’t have a guide for cutting with CNC, it’s been trial and error with me. With cutting stainless, even if your settings are not correct, you don’t get much dross on the underside of the cut like you would with cutting carbon steel. I did have to sand the edges a little to get rid of a little jagged edge on the underside of the cut.

With mig, I can get a half-decent bead going when welding ΒΌ”, 3/16” and from time to time 1/8”. Anything thinner it seems like it’s a sloppy weld that wants to melt thru the material. I guess I just have to keep playing with the settings. With tig welding it seams like you can manipulate the weld pool better.
