I have been reading that some inverter based machines do not stick weld cellulose type rods such as the 6010 rods very well. Does anyone know how the powerpro 256 units do?
Some of my welding is outside, so stick works better than TIG.

Never heard that story before, inverters can produce D.C. current as well as anything else... you will have no trouble burning cellulose rods in either the 250EX or the PP 256,,,,all my welders, 250EX, Imig 205 and PA 200 are inverter based and they burn 6010, 6011 like they were made for it.
Some of those lies people tell about me, are true
What is the difference in the welders that have three outlets? One is labeled for 6010 so must be different somehow.

6010 might work on the 256 but you may find a better result with a 6011. The two rods are close but I have also heard some inverters dont like 6010. The reason being is that they need a little more voltage than the other rods to get the same consistancy of how good they burn. Only their just arc welders have the 3 ports. If your wanting to use lots of 6010 then it may be better to just get like a powerarc 200. Thats what I have and they work wonderfully. Ive never tried a 6010 in the non 6010 port but they run pretty good in the port that its desinded for. If your using 6010 on the 256 then I would turn your arc force up to increase your volts.

That would be a great comparison to make. It might be like the mythological 'hover control' on the Huey!Ive never tried a 6010 in the non 6010 port

I may try it one of these days when I get a chance. See if theres a noticable change
