Default First prototype portable flywheel grinding machine

Love free time to work on projects. have some funny car racers that gave me some hints on a machine to resurface there clutch plates and floater on the clutch pack units so got down and built a grinder they would like and also was a wet grinder since not so messy and leaves a perfect finish on there floaters with out plates warping . well got 1st design done . post some pics Attachment 6056Click image for larger version.

Is that what would be called a "blanchard grinder"?

That looks really useful. I'd probably be turning it into a rotary table milling machine if I had it. Or at least, surfacing a flywheel or pressure plate.

What X-Y table did you use?

The table is a big block Chevy flywheel i machined on my lathe and Bridgeport mill , the plate rides on a lower heavy cast iron base that is filled with table oil . the same as a van norman flywheel grinding machine uses that way the table always runs true , put my dial indicator on it when turning has 0 run out reading . table turns at 18 rpm

rotary table milling yes i think it would be good for that , I have some machine blocks for my cbn head resurfacing machine that are not true would be good to match them up to the same size . be nice to have the table magnetic also

Looks good. Probably a ton cheaper than the FG4000R we bought late last year. Have you made an adapter to surface the floaters?

yes a lot cheaper and a lot lighter its weight is only 350 pounds . pressure plate outer bolt holes worked perfect for the location of offset cams to hold the floaters tight and flat on the table . I got a 5000 Van norman grinder its one heavy machine lol
