Thread: Question about the Everlast Fabricator helmet?

  1. #1

Default Question about the Everlast Fabricator helmet?

I like the specs on the Fabricator helmet but there is one that has me confused....

Under "Auto Adjusting Lens Shade" it's says that the only helmet from Everlast to do that is the Defender.
What does "Auto Adjusting Lens Shade" mean?

The way I take that is that the helmet is not auto sensing BUT It says "Fast switching time reduces eye exposure to arc rays, and reduces night blindness".

    I'm confused!?

I've got two helmets basically like the one in the link. I'm just wanting something a little better.

Would not be the first time the website confused someone. Done by web designers and sale guys.

It is an auto switching helmet. I use one. It is has a sensor count listed as well will let you know. But anyway it is.

None by me. I have had a person or two over the years say they have been flashed TIGing around an object on the 2 sensor helmet (they blocked a sensor). I have not see this, they probably did not have the helmet down where the action is.

The Everlast Fabricator helmet is a very good helmet. It is very fast at darkening to the set darkness; even in cold weather. The only complaint I have is if it's really dark, it will shut off without you knowing and take a second to turn back on...has to be pretty dark though.

    Benjamin,

Do you set the helmet face down on something flat? That's the only way mine will cut off. I hang mine either on a hat tree or on top of a gas bottle, but it does not shut off until night.

Ok.. I recieved my Fabricator helmet but I have a question.

When I select sensitivity, the number cycles through "9-, 9--, 9, 9+, 9++" I'm just wondering what the different levels of negative and positive are for?

Also, I can't pick the shade I want. It will just let me cycle through 9 and sometimes 13. Does it choose for me when I weld depending on the settings?

sure sounds like you have the Defender helmet.
    it is an auto shade.
the +, ++, -, -- should be marked 'offset' it will ether increase or decrease the shade by 1 or 2 from the auto selected shade. the sensitivity should be a small bar graph along the top.

How do you tell if it's the Defender or Fabricator?
Ohhh... So if it auto selects 9 and I have one -, it will be 8, if I have one + it will be 10, yes? So I can't physically set it to shade 12, I just pick if I want what it picks or if I want less shade or more shade?

From what I can tell it is a Aurora Safety & Protection. Chinese made and probably resold under different companies. All I can find on it are chinese importers wanting to sell bulk quantities. Looks like they are out of stock at the moment.

It's the Defender. The Fabricator has manual settings, (which I like) and the Defender has automatic settings.

Mark, It will shut off sometimes just looking down. The shop is about 40 by 40 and a 16' ceiling with 5, dual bulb 8' tubular florescent lights.
