Thread: Power Ultra 205 issue

  1. Default Power Ultra 205 issue

I've had my 205 for a couple of months now, and really only used it long enough to make sure everything worked.

Last night I use the cutter to make a pile of metal out of a rusty old Jeep frame. I did splatter back and ruin the tip from under the metal cone after quite a bit of use. After changing, I was having to stop and pull the cones and the tip, and blow it out before it would strick an arc.

This could be the result of __________

    Thanks

Maybe some slag got inside the torch? You swapped the cone and tip after the first one went right? Also make sure they are tight, do not over tighten, just a good solid hand tight. They do work themselves loose if they are not snug.

The tank has a dryer on it? Remove the tip and cone and make sure no metal blew back in here.

I took it apart several times to clean it when it started acting up. They were only hand tight while staying snug I never needed a tool to loosen. I have an oil/water seperator but maybe that's it. What is a symptom of water in the system?

    Thanks

If you were drag cutting excessively or if you got excessive splatter built up on the nozzle, it sounds as if you got some sort of slag contamination in the torch head itself. Check the two little pins on either side of the torch head to make sure they are "springy" by pushing down on them manually (with machine off and unplugged of course!!!!). Also, press your thumb on the electrode tip. It should retract easily and the tip should rebound quickly once you release the pressure. If it does not, you could have gotten some "overheating" issues in the torch tip and a full disassembly of the torch may be required to locate the exact cause of the problem. Is the swirl ring damaged or melted? or plugged?
