Thread: PowerTig 225 LX Alu Setup

  1. Default PowerTig 225 LX Alu Setup

    Hello Everyone

I got my everlast PowerTig 225LX for a couple of years now and i never got it to work (((

Would would be good startig setting to put beeds on a 1/8 thick ALU plate ??
    I have a 1/16 red tungston with a number 6 cup

What would i set the gas at ?? and just to make sure the ground clamp would be on the ( + ) side and the Tig Toutch would be on the ( - ) ????
And what would i set all them fancy buttons on the front of the machine ???

    Thanks everyone
    Biggs

A 3/32 tungsten would be better.
I'd start at about 110 amps for just putting beads on a plate.
Gas at 6 liters per hour on the supplied flowmeter.
Assuming you are using the pedal, leave the pulse and most of the other knobs off for now, weld in AC.
Set post flow to be on for about 3-4 seconds to help preserve your tungsten.
Put the AC Balance at about the 9-10 o'clock position. This will be a little easier to get the puddle to be smoother as it will provide some cleaning.
AC frequency at about the middle of the adjustment.

Keep the tungsten close to the puddle, but don't let it touch the puddle or it will contaminate teh tungsten.

It will probably be fine since your just trying to run beads. I would go to welding tips and tricks and watch his inverter settings video series. I watched them all about three times, and finally sat down with a notebook and took notes. I followed all of his settings. In the video he tells you how he set the machine and then gives a middle of the road number. I used the middle of the road settings first and got to where I could run a bead. After I got better I played around with the settings to see how it changed the weld.

I went to the manual section and down loaded the manual then ran some copys of the front of welder off on printer , so when i am welding different stuff i can see were i had the knobs set . or was set at . i just marked on the picture on the knobs were i had them set for later reference . also always clean your aluminum very well for nice welds i use the heck out of scotch brite pads and stainless steel brushes here a good thing if you ever have nasty dirty aluminum works great for clean and steel also . http://users.eastlink.ca/~pspencer/n...ctrolysis.html washing soda and a battery charger is all you need . save a lot of rusty gas cans and motor cycle tanks doing this
