Thread: Custom condenser for microdistillery

  1. Default Custom condenser for microdistillery

I'm currently welding up a heat exchanger for a local microdistillery. Everything is welded at around 100-120 amps on my powerultra 205p. Cu to stainless with silicon bronze rods, stainless to stainless with 308 rods, 100% Ar. Pulsing on the copper to ss welds.

Nice. I might have to do something like that for my fuel still to better recycle the energy input rather than throwing it away.

Copper to SS, I never would have even thought to try. Just what I need, another item for the experiment list.

To be clear this is a contract for a LEGAL and LICENSED beverage alcohol distillery. Cu to 304/316 is common all over the industry.

That takes all the fun out of it.

Interesting, being of the hobbyist persuasion, I just never thought much about welding dissimilar metals.

I assumed it was. Around here there are a lot of micro brews, but the distilleries need a special federal permit. Pretty much nobody around here want to jump through the hoops to get one.

Thanks for posting about the welds. Nice info and a good job.

I've use nickle and other alloys. Copper Silver mix.

Can you share a little more on the silicon bronze rods. Mix and brand?

Sometimes I play the plumber and AC man for people. Can you use gas (O/A) with them as well?

ERCuSi-A - Copper Alloy TIG Welding Rod from arc-zone.com. These can be used for oxy acet brazing as well (I recommend harris black flux) but the results are seriously different. I do work for NOLA rum but this is not for them...

I'll pick some up, thanks for the info. So many things out there and the cost you can never try them all. They sounds like the Harris O phos copper I use for o/a.

Just went to order a lb for $18 and they want $14 to ship it ground. Will see if WSI has them next trip there. I heard all good about arc-zone, but $14 for ship it ground. WOW. Will buy local and get a couple lbs.

Well, they contacted me over the cancelled order (I never submitted but they had all my info on the first page). That was good they email I guess. They are adding USPO soon, new shipping was $10, passed again but they are on top of things, I'll give them that.
