  1. Default johnnyfive says hello from Lancaster, PA. Everlast PowerTig 225LX

Hello from Lancaster, PA. Just purchased my first Everlast product, the Everlast PowerTig 225LX, and all I can say is what an excellent machine. Would like to say a special thank you to Alex for the great customer service. I was apprehensive about the machine having a pulse frequency of .5 - 25 pps. but after having a nice talk with Alex and his detailed explanation of pulse frequency and this machine, I felt this was the welder for my needs. I am posting some photos and you can see I was welding beads (using pulse function) right on the edge of .063 aluminum quite easily... now remember, these are my very first beads with this machine and I feel with more seat time, I'm going to get this welder really dialed in. I wanted to show you something right out of the box. Other practice beads were run with, and without pulse. All welding was done with parameters set on machine. Foot pedal was not used.
I took up welding two months ago and started with MIG and recently, turned to TIG. I am helping two kids through college, and all the other family stuff. Everlast has the price point and quality product that has allowed me to start this new hobby. I am waiting for the new finger-controlled tig torch to come in...then it's game on. Thank you for allowing me to join the Everlast family...

Yeah...great movie. Haven't seen it in awhile. I think it was released in 1986. "Number 5 is alive!". I see you own a few Everlast machines. There aren't too many welding equipment manufacturers who are offering a 5-year warranty. That was another reason I went green with the TIG purchase.

Thank you. I think patience is the key... just take your time and find that steady rhythm. I use 1-2 seconds of pre-flow and wait for the aluminum to puddle. Dip and then move about an 1/8" and repeat. Post-flow I have set to 2 seconds. The beads on the edge... I played around with pulse frequency. Some were done at 1 pulse per second while others I used the max 25 pps. I really wanted to exploit the extremes of this machine to see the effects. I just took the machine out of the box, wired my plug, attached the flow meter, and then went to town. Let me tell you guys, if I can do it, you can too. I'm headed to the garage to get some more seat time... see you later.

ID:	6442Thanks for the kind words. I really love this machine. Here are some more samples from my second effort. My personal opinion about the 225LX is that it is very forgiving and will do just about anything you want it to. I think it's about time I start creating something. What would be a cool first project?

looks good do you rest your hand on anything when holding your torch . i have a couple of old welding gloves i kept i roll one up and rest my welding hand on when welding helps keep torch steady for me

I don't rest my hand on anything other than light pressure on the heel of my hand laying on the welding table. I usually do a dry run or two just to get the feel of direction...then I just start welding. I'll say one thing about this forum, there is a lot of experience and great information available. As a newbie, I greatly appreciate all feedback provided and the overall tone of this forum. It's all about helping each other constructively so we all can become better welders and enjoy this craft. Thank you all...

I second your positive appreciation of this forum. No bashing of any kind and truly a wealth of people willing to help. Learned more in the past few days than I could possibly have aimlessly googling.

Very nice welds! Have fun with your "green machine".
Is it OK to want to break something just so that you can weld it back together?

We try to keep it fun and educational here, welding or Everlast welders.

Sometimes we will get either and expert with a tude (I can think of a site they could joins ) or a customer with a bad unit and they need a place to vent. But otherwise, we like to keep it simple. Been this way for years now. There are a lot of knowledgeable good folks on the forum with good answers and no fluff.

Thanks for your and Johnny's positive comments.

Nice job and thanks for sharing! Do you mind me asking which welds you used the 1-2pps pulse and the 25pps? Also, did the 25pps frequency ever give you eye strain?

This post is from April, hope Johnnyfive is still online to respond. The real slow speeds should not bother your eyes if that is what you are asking, and will give you a timing (metronome) for dipping the filler rod.

Johnnyfive hasn't posted in over 6 months so there is a good chance he's not going to see your question.....

I use 1-2 pps for timing to get the stacked dimes look and keep the heat down on corner work. 25pps is the same with keeping the heat down some on corner work. Never had any eye strain from it. Does watching a movie at a theater give you eye strain (24fps) or tv (30fps)?
