Default 225 LX Digital Display not reading correctly

Today when I turned on my machine the display only reads 160
with the amp knob turned all the way up. It seems like the amps
are 225 (when I'm welding) but the display reads 160.

The pulse is off and everything looks like its set correctly.

    I'm I missing something.

    Thanks

    Hi Brian,
This is typical of a dropped power leg, one phase of the220V missing.
I’d check the connections in the power plug first, and flipyou circuit breaker on and off an couple of times.
It is the same in Stick mode?

I noticed when putting on the 220 plug if the larger 50 amp . i strip the wires back farther and fold over at ends to make thicker to fit tighter were the wires are clamped in plug . and i take a piece of rubber hose sliced up the side and put around the welder power lead so when the clamp in the plug that holds the cord is held good

Mine only goes up to 150 something. I am thinking its because of all the household stuff going too. No way it can draw 200 amps when its only a 200 amp panel with stuff in the house on.

    Am I wrong?

Your welder would never draw 150 or 200 amp... that's it's output.

a 200 at full power only draws about 35 amp . here a chart to figure amp and watts http://www.jobsite-generators.com/po...lculators.html . most welder problems i find is bad plug connections or running under rated wiring . that why all my 220 wiring is 6 gauge or larger gauge

I checked the power plug and breaker and they're both good.

I checked the voltage at the connection for the water cooler (behind the unit) and I get 230-240V.

Is it possible that a connection is loose but still give me 230V?

    Any other ideas?

    Thanks

It still does sound like one of the hots legs are off or on a neutral of a 4 prong plug like Ray said. Did you ohm ground to each leg inside the machine (110vac) and across them and saw 220vac)?

Also, I only use 50 amps plug on all my Everlast products (can not guess how many over they years, hundreds) and have never had a problem screwing them down to the plugs. NOW, I do tin my stranded wired AC cords, something I learned years ago to avoid arcing and corrosion and it does make them thicker. I do it on everything I have to install a plug on, takes seconds (stinks sometimes when you hit the insulation).
