Thread: Dialing in my IMIG 200... Question?

  1. #1

Default Dialing in my IMIG 200... Question?

I cannot get the sizzle sound to be continuous. The wire will ball up on the end slightly until it burns off then it continues on, it's not bad because I've been adjusting everything and got it very close.
I've adjusted the tension on the wire spool, tension on the rollers, wire feed speed/voltage but I just can't make it totally go away. The gas is a 75/25 mix of Argon/Co2 running at 20cfm(adjusted from 10 to 30 with no change). My nozzle is clean and I've tried many different angles.

Is this normal or what am I doing wrong?

A good gound clamp is a must for a mig machine,,

The clamps supplied as original equipment are entry level to keep unit cost down,,,buying a better clamp will pay off in the long run,,especially on mig machine where contact is broken and restarted over and over in the process of wire feed

I will do that! I don't think that is the cause of my issues I'm having right now though

Hmmmm... I DIDN't adjust Arc force because I thought that was only for Stick mode. Let me go try That!! Thanks

arc force is to fine tune when you stop welding how much of your wire is sticking out when stopped ,Arc Force Control. This feature allows you to change arc qualities. When used in MIG mode, it helps to control wire burn back and stick out. These two factors help in start/stopping activities such as spot welding. When used in Stick/MMA/ SMAW mode, increasing or decreasing the “dig” can make the arc crisp and sharp or soft and buttery. This is helpful for making quality welds in and out of position. Some experimentation may be required to deter-mine the best setting for individual tastes from manual -- manual pdf http://www.everlastgenerators.com/downloads/mig.pdf lol i always read the manuals if on line before i even get my welders or buy the welder

I just called the LWS and they have one so it's mine right after work!

I think I have this thing dialed in now. I couldn't tell a difference with Arc Force in any position but after reading "Rods" post I guess I need to pay attention After I'm done welding. I gotta learn to read man U-L's..
I was welding and I just kept thinking it seems like the spool is jerking as it is pulled into the torch. So I would pull the trigger and it rolled smooth!?!? Finally, instead of loosening the wing nut for the spool, I tightened it to within a half turn of tight and now it wizzes along perfectly and welds Awesome!! Of course I need more practice but with my new helmet I can now see what I'm welding so I'm ready to take on the world!!

So just practicing, I welded this Stainless round bar to the mild 1/8" flat stock with the wire thats on the spool, E70s2. Would something like that hold?

How would you stop burning the corner if you were to weld all the way around like this?

Those are nice looking welds,,,it seems you have mastered mig,,,,wish I could be as consistant as those welds...nice work

welds look good great deep penetration when i weld i start from each end and work inward then you dont get that melt away at end i do some short beads in center to stop warp oh what do you have your shielding gas flow set at i have my set about 10 seams to weld cleaner also what size wire spool size are you using and make sure the roll turn free and not binding and make sure you have the rite groove to drive the wire on the drive roller. also you will get bb if to high on amps since it gets into spray mode . were it melt before getting to surface your welding check this out https://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&q...L4M1RzJx1vBiiw

It looks like he's running the wire out too far. I run my gas at 15 or 18 I can't remember. If your running crappy wire that could be some of the problem. Welding stainless to steel is probably some of your issue.

yey sorta play with gas flow to see how it welds . Welding stainless to steel is probably some of your issue. i agree has to weld strange sorta like welding aluminized exhaust tubing lol

I notice more bb's when I let my arc length get too large, ie, less shielding, nozzle too far from the work. Your beads look great in my opinion.

I am running the gas at 20. I try to keep the nozzle as close to the work as I can butI'm sure it's probably farther than it should be, I would guess it at 1/2" or so sticking out.
The wire size in it now is .030 but that's just about gone and I will be changing to an 11lb. roll of .035.
