Default What exactly is in the box?

So in looking at everything I need, I'm trying to get a list together.

200DX has been ordered, states it comes with a 'consumables starter pack' and no tungsten. What is in the starter pack? What collet sizes are included with the WP26 for the 200DX?

I know I'll need a plug, neighbor is an electrician who is in the process of rewiring my shop, so I'm ok there. Have a 40amp outlet near where I'll be welding, that will be 50amp when we're done rewiring.

Other than argon and a new hood, what else am I looking at to get up and running and in what sizes? Mostly I'll be working on 1/8" and thinner initially, and generally speaking, 90% of what I'll be doing will be 3/16 and thinner. Plain steel for a while, but stainless and brass, perhaps some bronze later.

I do have a few spools of Hobart solid core in .023 and .030 laying about, but would like recommendations if there's something better to have on hand for mild steel. Fenders and gas tank will be the first project once I get back in the groove.

Ok, I just looked again and now I'm confused, the site says air cooled WP26 but the download PDF says water cooled WP18? Which is in the box with the new 200DX?

Based on the output of your welder, I would guess water cooled, but I do not know for certain ... I have the 256 which is water cooled. You can get away without a water cooler, if you keep the amps low, but it's cheap to plumb in a garden hose for starters.

Your consumable pack has things like cups, collets, and back caps. I wouldn't buy any extra until you know what sizes you like and how often you need to replace them. I'm still learning on the consumables that came with my welder. For tungsten, get some 3/32", and maybe some 1/16". I made the mistake of only getting 1/16" when I started out, and quickly realized that I could not go much over 60 amps without destroying it. Still, the 1/16" is pretty cheap, so if you want to start out on some thin stuff, you won't spend a lot of money destroying tungsten.

MIG wire is typically ER70S6, while it will work, you would probably do better with ER70S2 and in a little thicker size. For sheet metal as you describe, I would say get some .040" and some 1/16 ER70S2. Play with those and see what works for you. A lot depends on fit up, but 1/16 is a good all around compromise for everything from 18 gauge up to 10 gauge.

Can anyone from Everlast confirm what torch body is in the new box?

Also, I was wondering, I came across torch bodies, no hoses or anything, are these capable of being swapped out with stock hoses and controls or are they just by themselves to allow new lines to be added at the desired length? Just wondering rather than having multiple coils of hoses laying around...

Not in sales, but I think all the 200 amp units come with the WP26. I would not worry about that, and order a WP-20 option next. Oleg can make you a deal on one. You will have a smaller torch and the water cooling lines. You can use city water pressure to use it and no cooler required to get going on a budget.

I'll definitely do that. Is the WP20 on the same size range as the 9? I was actually looking at as small as I can go, much of what will be done is smaller than a pack of smokes.

As far as a cooler, I have been snagging bits and pieces since last year for a cooler, I wouldn't want to use local water either...

EDIT: I was asking since the PDF download lists the 18...

You can find a filter designed to fit the hose bib, and remove the calcium deposits that plug up your misting system ... About $20 at the hardware store. The same thing would work for the torch cooler, but I doubt that the plumbing on the torch is small enough to readily get plugged by deposits. If it does get plugged, vinegar will dissolve the deposits, but it would be tricky to get it into the torch plumbing .

On the 200DX, you'll have a lot less complexity and cost if you stay aircooled, and you'll have a more portable setup as well. If that interests you, I'd go with the CK Trimline 210 with flex-head and superflex cables. 200 amps @ 100% duty cycle A/C. It doesn't even cost all that much. And if you want the smaller WP9/20 cup style, you can get stubby collet body kits also. (That's what I have my torch set-up and use the most often, at the moment.) You shouldn't need anything but 1/16" and 3/32" tungsten diameters.

But yeah, I'd not worry about it too much, and just try out the WP26 to start with. It will get you up and running, at least.

Lol, I had to read your post 3 times, as I thought you were saying you had a 50 gallon capacity torch cooler . You are right, I think you can build one for around $200, and I'm partial to the carbonator style ones. However, the purpose built ones aren't that much more, so it makes sense to me to save for one, instead of troubleshooting the Franken-cooler I would surely build
