Default Perhaps a silly question about tungsten...

I was wondering last night, the different sized tungstens; relative to metal thickness, why can't thicker ones be tapered longer? Would this not bring the dimension at the tip down similar to thinner tungsten?

    Mostly just wondering...

You are on to something,,blunting the end of a tungsten does change it's ability to handle amperage,,,this comparision can be seen on the chart in the CK world wide tech manual..

Check it out good reading for TIG guys..

I brought this up the other day. You can do it, but you lose more of the control of the arc. It tends to wander more. I guess not quite as steady.
