  1. Default Project 2 from NRM Category 4: Portable Stand

I wanted a stand that was portable so I could break it down and transport it in my truck. The stand will be used for weighing (fish/pigs), cleaning (fish/pigs), lifting (outboard motors), and anything else that needs to be lifted. I was swinging on it so I know it holds at least 290 lbs. It’s made of 1.25” Sch 40 MS x 6” that was tacked using tig (120A) and finished using stick (95A). I would have liked to use tig for everything but I was running out of argon. I finished with stick and the welds will hold but they looked terrible and the pics show how bad they look even after grinding them down. I might add nuts to secure the legs and cross tube but it works as is. The top tube will be replaced by a 1” Sch 40 pipe.

Pics 1 & 2 – Using a paper template to cut the cope angles and the saw setup.

Don't worry, if I stick welded it the welds would look much worse...

    Simple and easy to transport!

The only concern I would have is, it looks like you didn't get good penetration in some spots of the welds, that could lead to failure if you get something heavy on there. Of course I don't think you will catch a fish over 290lbs. and Pigs??!?!? lol

CGC I probably didn’t get good penetration everywhere but my scale goes to 440lbs and big ahi (yellow fin tuna) around here weigh 180-250lbs so I think I will be safe. If we catch a marlin then that will go on the scales at the dock. If I had to do it again I would make a mock setup with PVC to get the coping right. The angle in line with the top tube was easy it was the angle perpendicular to the top tube that was a disaster. Also I would weld the entire thing using tig not stick.

Went catching yesterday, not fishing, and my stand works. Ahi (yellow fin tuna >100 lbs) was 94lbs gilled and gutted.
