Thread: I-Mig Welders

  1. Default I-Mig Welders

Everlast (anyone who works there) what is the most popular model in the I-Mig line?

What models do others on this site have and what are the pros, cons and would you purchace another model if you had to di it over again?

I am interested in getting a I-Mig 200 but want opinions from other forum members.

I have the i mig 205 , with the spool gun - the 200 is nice but i want a mig that holds 44 pound spool since save you on money on wire and 160 amps to me is a little small for what i weld . as for wire a 12 pounds spool price to a 44 pound roll price is like only 12 dollars difference saves a lot of money if you weld a lot . was going to get the 250 i mig but it is not set up to use a spool gun .

Uhh...yes it is. Canadian models may not be, but the US ones are. Earlier models were not, but current ones are:

Rod thanks for the info. I will have to look at the price of wire here to compare. What are the dimensions of your I-Mig 205?

I have 2 Imig 205,,,and one spool gun,,,if I was to buy another mig welder it would probably be another Imig 205,,,the welder is big enough for most any job and can be run off a genset,,, it does decent stick,,,has arc force,,,is light enough to move around and has proven to be reliable,,,can run 10 lbs spools or 44 lb spool of wire...truth be know since I got my first one I'm migging just about everything,,,hardly stick weld anymore,,have a PA 200 for that and a 250EX that sit there collecting dust...

Yeah,,lol,,,wanted a top of the line TIG unit with water cooler,,,got them and hardly ever use them,,,TIG welding takes me back to my early days gas welding in my dad body shop,,,use to drive the oldman nuts watching soot from the gas welding drift towards the paintbooth,,,Tig is much cleaner but still as slow as gas welding,,,guess I'm too old to wait for things to happen,,,so I mig it,,,Tig to me is just personnel practice and skill learning...never expect to be good at it but keeps me learning new things..

What do you need to make the spacer on the I-Mig 205 for the 2lb rolls?

Send it my way. Hate to see your 250ex suffer like that .... I'll make sure it has a good home.
Is it OK to want to break something just so that you can weld it back together?

I'll probably end up doing something like that,,,could have used it 50 years ago,,,would have worn it out back then,,,these days I can get by doing everything with the Imig 205...it's the old story of not having what you need at the right time,,,wish some kid would wander in the shop and want to learn to use it...but even those type of kids are hard to come by these days,,,,so it will sit there with the rest of my toys waiting for me to use it a few hours a year...don't get old,, it's not good for you

Never buy 2lb spools of mig wire, you will go broke buying them and they last about 30 minutes!!!!!

I have the Imig 200 owned the millermatic 211 before I bought the Imig. I purchased the Imig 200 so I can carry it on job sites. It's a good welder, and I have liked it very much. I am now looking to upgrade to at least a 250 amp mig welder more heavy duty, more duty cycle. I've gotten to the point where I'm bumping the limits of my Imig 200 on duty cycle and amps. It's always good to look at what you need and maybe go one size up. When I purchased my Imig I was doing smaller jobs (fence repair, smokers, trailer repairs, etc) so it was well within the range of power I needed. Think about what you may need in the future. The 205 and 205p have more duty cycle than the 200. The 205p offers pulse which makes a difference if your mig welding aluminum. If you can afford a mig 250 go that route and be done with it.

Small section of PVC pipe...same as some other companies use, but charge 40.00 for one.

Thanks for the timely thread, I have a few questions myself.

Does the 250p do stick? Does it come with an electrode holder that uses the euro connector or is there a hidden dinse somewhere?

Are rollers available for flux core? How about for .023?

Can the wheels and cylinder holder be easily removed?
