I like the tie down straps with umbrella.
At a couple of shops, I've put the pump and the motor up on the roof, and just the tank inside. Makes it pretty quiet, and it's still easy to drain the tank and get to most of the plumbing. Nice and quiet, all you hear is the tapping of the check valve, if that's mounted on the tank.
Long arc, short arc, heliarc and in-the-dark!
nice huh darn wood roof with shingles blew away a month ago when we had a bad storm , have to get my but out the and build another lol cant believe the beast is over 28 years old and still a pumping , had to put a new electric motor on it this year

Can you wire up a 3 phase if you have single phase or does that play with the type of service coming into the building?

IME, you don't need a very big compressor for die grinding.
I've got a pretty modest sized compressor... a harbor freight 115V special. The die grinder is the main thing I use it for. I have modified it's cooling system for 100% duty cycle. (made improved shroud, and an "always on" auxiliary electric cooling fan.) I do like how it doesn't take up much space. (Vertical tank style) and is portable (on wheels, can be moved if needed.)
That said, it does run a lot better since removing the restrictive air pressure regulator off of it. (I'm talking about the pneumatic one that is in-line with the air fitting, not the one that controls the compressor motor from cyling on/off.) I also find that I often don't need to run my die grinder "flat out" to make it work efficiently.
Since doing that, my main remaining compaint about it is how loud it is. I always use ear plugs when near it while it's running. I use it primarily for carbide burring, but also for cartridge rolls, and other small surface prep tools with the die grinder (roloc stuff on die grinder... 2" diameter discs works OK, 3" is a little underpowered in the torque department). I've got straight, and right angle die grinders for it. I also use it for blowing things clean (or to cool hot things down), and airing up tires. Doesn't drive the impact wrench very well, or drive an air-powered cutoff tool very well.

Yeah, you never know what your getting out there.
I'm going to save and do it right.
I looked up my little compressor and this is the CFM rating:
SCFM Delivery At 40 psi: 6.3 SCFM
SCFM Delivery At 90 psi: 5.1 SCFM
That is enough for my Plasma cutter so I'll deal with it for awhile till I can get a huge compressor and plumb the shop.

BTW you did say sand blasting... These are cheaper Harbor Freight jobs...
This is a cabinet style...
http://www.harborfreight.com/40-lb-c...net-93608.html
Requires a 5 HP compressor with minimum 12 CFM at 40-80 PSI
And here is a portable...
http://www.harborfreight.com/40-lb-p...ter-68992.html
Air consumption: 6-25 CFM
I use one like this...
http://www.harborfreight.com/portabl...kit-37025.html
Minimum air requirement: 3.5 CFM @ 50 PSI
Mine uses a lot of air... I run mine at a full pressure... It works great, until the pressure drops (few minutes) and then efficiency drops and use more air. Just giving you an idea of what air a sand blaster uses... Probably the highest air using tool. Btw at the moment I have a medium compressor.
