Thread: Recieved my Grizzly Swivel Band Saw .......

  1. Default

this is not directed towards the OP. posted purely for educational purposes for alternative locations to buy things.

i am too lazy to start another thread.

found this on google in a couple of minutes.

    http://www.auctionbymayo.com/index.p...02&linkgroup=1

first two pages three welders, two saws, one magnetic drill.

here a couple of items i bought a few days ago. the other half is in the shop.

the champion tungsten carbide cutters alone are 75 ea.

like i said, just an option to consider and they don't always go well. beats the hell out of paying retail.

Their website says they have a showroom and warehouse in Springfield, MO. Can you bring it there instead? Not sure what town you're in, but if they'll accept it there it may take some of the sting out of $160. Ouch.

No, I'm 4 hours away. I have been talking to them again and I think I am going to have them send me a new motor and go from there, just keep it so I don't lose $160. The swivel works great now that I've fixed it and if the motor would not overheat, it will be an ok saw.
I just can't see throwing that money away so I just learn on this purchase.

I don't know what to do, I've called and talked to three different people, emailed.....

So I guess I just bend over and take it!? I would like to say an F word right about here!
They didn't ship what you ordered (a new fully functional machine). If the machine were missing the motor when it arrived, would you still be liable for shipping ?

It's life. Sometimes we toss the dice thinking the odds are stacked in our favor and sometimes we get the snake eyes. Hey if the unit is serviceable with a new motor, why not. Can you make the unit a bit taller by putting something under the existing stand? Might be less work doing that than making a whole new stand. Cheers!
Is it OK to want to break something just so that you can weld it back together?

Trust me man, I have talked to many people there till I was blue, or better yet, red in the face. I finally made a decision to chill and try to fix what I have. Like my dad always says, "you can't fix stupid" and it seemed like that's all I got from them. They will Not be getting any repeat business from me though

As far as the stand... I'm thinking I might incorporate this saw onto my Plasma cutting table. Time will tell....

Recieved the new motor today, installed it and ran the crap out of the saw. Seems like it fixed the problem so with a new motor and my fixing of the swivel area, it the best saw ever! :\ lol

I might have stretched the truth there a little with "the best saw ever" but it works and cuts straight.
I am so close to talking myself into buying the HF 7x12 saw this weekend but I hate to spend the money after the grizzly saw and the plasma cutter...

HF will take it back if not happy and local. But I bet you'll like it. I know a lot of people with that model/size and not one complaint. I am down to one HBS, but this one breaks I am going to get that same HF one myself.

I guess most companies today think "once it's yours, it's Yours!!"

I emailed Grizzly and gave them an overview of the problems I have had with the bad saw I bought.
I asked if there was going to be some kind of compensation for the time it took to tear the saw apart to grind out the casting keeping it from swiveling correctly and also for the installing and re-wiring the new motor they sent. I bought a new saw and it should function as such and I don't feel they should get by with sending me a motor and telling me the wiring instructions are in the manual.

I know the answer because I don't feel they know the term customer service.

    LOL....

    Dear Mike,
Thank you for your email dated July 19, 2012.

Grizzly does not compensate for having items installed. We do provide the wiring instructions inside the motor for easy installation. To have the motor installed by someone is to your discretion.
    Alicia

    So I sent....

    Alicia,

So let me see if I understand.

I bought this item from Grizzly since they seem to be a trusted name, I could get the saw cheaper elsewhere.

I've had nothing but problems with it from the swivel not working right causing me to have to tear the saw apart and grind off some of the casting that was blocking the travel. Then the motor went out after two days of owning the saw.
So now that you sent a replacement motor for the defective product I bought from you, I'm just out of luck and will have to pay out of my pocket to get this Brand New saw fixed?

This doesn't seem like customer care, it seems like I'm getting the short end of the stick.
    Mike

After I sent that, a girl called me.
She asked what type of compensation am I looking for? I said well, after all this hassel, you tell me what you can do and we'll go from there.
She said she could do a $25 store credit coupon...lol. I said that's fine.
It's not the money or time, it's the point of taking care of your customers. I was looking at one of their milling machines but I will probably not purchase anything from them again.

That makes two of us. I was looking at one of their mid range knee mills but after seeing how grizzly handled your problems I'll be shopping elsewhere.

Went to Harbor Freight to buy the 7x12 bandsaw with my 20% off coupon. Walked in, took a look at the display model, walked back out empty handed.
I guess it's just me but these saws just don't look like they add up to the asking price!?
I'm sure the saw works fine and is bigger than the Grizzly I bought but I just couldn't see throwing my money away on Another cheaply made saw.
I'm going to save my money and eventually buy a Real band saw that is Heavy Freakin Duty!

Too bad that didn't work out for you but you need to be comfortable and confident about the capabilities of your tools otherwise, what's the point.

I'll sell you a blue harbor freight saw for $999... you'll save $100. Looks like the same saw with a minor difference in add ons, like the pulley set, wheels and feed control brackets.
