I think they are just trying to be all things to all people. Virtually every swivel band saw I've seen only goes from 0 to 45 in one direction. Stock clamps on the left and cuts on the right. By having the vise move, this saw could feed from either side. Might be nice in some shop setups, but once you pick a side you probably stick with it. As long as the saw can go to 45 in one direction, you can make any kind of cut you want. Wood saws without vises can swing both ways, but most metal saws don't. It still should be faster than a moving jaw vise type saw to switch to angles. But it all depends on how much precision you need, too. Eyeballing a scale is not going to yield a perfect cut. I would want to be able to hold .25 degree accuracy or about .010" in 2". If I had this saw, I would make an adjustable stop at 90 and another at 45. Then I could rapidly get back to my two common cuts with some precision. I would still have to fool around to get the 22.5 cuts, but I could live with that. Once again I look at these tools as kits that need to be finished. If I spent $3000 I would expect turn key, but for $500 and a few tweaks I would have a pretty nice tool that would do what I want.

i have an 1800, more saw than he needs but having the swing in both directions is great. best saw i have ever used.\

From the website picture, it's hard to judge the size of this band saw but it is little. It has a short base and now I see why they don't put a door on it with shelves inside, IT's Little!!

You gonna get a sore back using that? LOL It looked a lot taller in the previous pictures about this unit.
Is it OK to want to break something just so that you can weld it back together?

It looks like a nice saw and I will come take it off your hands!

My opinion of band saw's is this.... Go cheap and get an HF 4x6 or spend $1,000.00 bucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I went cheap!
hey Shawn. I wanted to share with you my solution for cutting angles. I also do not want to change my square setting of the vise to blade, when I am getting cuts square to within a few thousandths now. I use one of the funky clamps from HF, attached thru the vise adjustment slot. The stock is against the edge of the fixed vise jaw at one point. Also I use some angles I got from Enco to set the proper degree. Once the angle is made and the stock set with the clamp, I bring the movable vise up to the stock and tighten the thru-bolt, so it is repeatable for the next piece. Works well for hobbiest-speed work.

    lol, it's Tiny!!

I'm talking to Grizzly through emails right now and trying to figure out what to do. I can return it or they can send me a new base to correct the swivel problem but I really don't think I'm going to be happy with this saw. I just wish the description in the website said something about needing to move the vise from left to right, yada, yada.. I was just thinking you swivel anywhere you want, zippity bam you cut the metal and blamo swivel back to where it was.

The coupon says 20% off any single item and has a few exclusions but band saws aren't one of them.

Default Here's the last email I recieved from Grizzly.....

"You may return an item within 30 days of purchase for a refund or exchange. Returned merchandise must be new, unused, and in its original packaging, and is subject to inspection upon its return"

My saw has been used and I don't have space to store huge boxes so it's in the dumpster.

I think they'll take it back with a manufacturing defect since you didn't discover it until you used it.

You can always try. If you get someone reasonable on the other end, they might see how unusable it is for you.

If you don't have a 20% off coupon, call the store manager and ask them where to get one... paper, mailer, ect..

Ok, so now the guy at Grizzly want's me to take pictures of the saw that I JUST recieved two days ago so he can take the pics to his manager and try and get a return approved on my used saw?!?!? Really? I told him I'm not taking pictures of a brand new saw that doesn't work as it should. Tell that to your manager and let me know!

This is the part I hate dealing with, I get so stressed out

Don't give up too easy, I'm sure they'd rather give a refund than have an unhappy customer posting a bad review.

    >>>Unplug<<< it, and stop messing with it. You definitely have a realistic "defective merchandise" return now. I hope it wasn't too much to ship.
