if you have some cash and can be patient you can do much better buying used. there are all kinds of auctions, cl's ads etc where stuff can be picked up for short money. there are fabrication shops and small fabricators going belly up every day. if not that then they are trying to raise money selling the things they don't use that often. i went to a place the day before yesterday and i purchased a 2007 30A and an SSC foot pedal (took it off the shelf) for 200 dollars total. the spool gun works fine i tried it today and even has a rawhide sheath to protect the cables. also purchased 50 quick connects for 75 dollars.
if you can do that you will get much more bang for your buck. paying retail in this economy is crazy. sorry everlast. the last welder i purchased was a 2010 miller XMT 350 for 1180.00. you can do it too. you just have to watch and wait.
best part is you have already made your mistakes with this saw so you will be a better educated buyer going forward. good luck.
did you pay for it with a credit card if so contact your credit card company and ask for a charge back , i always pay with paypal since they will do a charge back if seller wont work with you

I used Paypal. I'm going to call them tomorrow and see how they handle it over the phone. Maybe they will upgrade me to a bigger saw!?!?! Maybe they will tell me to take my little junk saw and stick it..... we'll see tomorrow!!
If the don't let me return it, then there might be problems...

Whatever saw you end up with, expect to have to do some tinkering, adjusting. There is a learning curve with something that has that many moving parts and variables. I suppose if you go over the top in investment, you can get a plug and play machine, but in the price range you are looking at the saws will need some 'personalizing'. Most of it is common sense, or that forum I posted here earlier has alot of expertise that can help work out any bugs in the machine.

great paypal most likely make them give you a different model or refund your money , sorta sucks use a couple of times and the motor takes a crap . you also can go to your paypal account and sign on and go to Resolution Center at upper screen and file a complaint . i would also tell them you are doing this to protect other buyers from buying this model grizzly band saw

yes but the electric motor dying is beyond tinkering and adjusting there is something really wrong when motor get hot when turned off i would class that as a fire hazard looked at spec it only has a 1/2 horse motor sorta small for a band saw

After I had a few beers and cooled off from the saw And the heat, I called Grizzly customer service and got ahold of someone that know's what customer service is.
He said as far as the motor I would need to call Tech support in the morning and they can help me with that issue. As far as the whole situation, the saw Will get fixed. He said I don't need to take pictures to "prove" anything, it's under warranty and will get fixed or resolved to my liking! I also got a "sorry for all your trouble, it should not be like this". Made me feel much better about it all.
I do know there will be some "tinkering" to get the saw squared up and cutting straight but this has been a little much.

Just to be clear about my earlier comments on saw adjustments, I was not thinking of this saw you now have. From your comments, the saw didn't impress you from the beginning. I was commenting about the next saw, any saw you might soon get. They all have their idiosyncrasies, the nature of the beast. At the lower price ranges especially.
Hope you get it straightened out.

Here is the Email I got this morning from Grizzly.....
We apologize for all the problems with your G9742 Metal-Cutting Bandsaw and have issued Return Authorization #1252956 to exchange the G9742 for the G4030 Metal-Cutting Bandsaw. I have set the return up to have the bandsaw inspected and test ran prior to shipping. Please keep this number for your records in case you need to call or e-mail us with questions about your return.
I told him in an email yesterday that if the description had said that I needed to switch the vise for it to swivel through out it's range and that it wasn't as easy as swivel and cut, I would have went ahead and bought the G4030. SO, I guess I'm getting a G4030 now.![]()

The Grizzly Tools range from very good to very poor, ( Some are as good of Quality as General International and Jet)There casting quality is something to be desired as they do not let there castings cure before machining.
A lot of there tools are made in the same plant as many other name brands and some of them are not as good as others. There motor program is something of a different story, some of them make good vibrators for equipment and some just don't run very long at all. There all white machines with the cast grizzly logo are there top of the line units and some do perform very well.
As to return if you press hard enough they will take them back as i was in the same situation with 6 machines from them approx 9 years ago. They had bad warped castings and tried to use loctite
retaining compound to take up machining tolerances in spindles ect.
Do Remember that back in the late 1990's when the US outsourcing went into full swing the Delta Line was purchased by Black & Decker of Hong Kong, which took the Tupilo Miss. Plant to nothing, Shortly after that the Powermatic Plant in Tenn was purchased by Jet and Closed. The list goes on and on.
I have a jet horizontal band saw and also a Kalamazoo 7A saw ( Old school will run forever). these to perform excellent in my metal shop.
it's too bad you need that saw now because if you stay at this one day you are going to sell it for less and (probably) buy a swivel head.
i wonder if grizzly gets a lot of people to upgrade to a more expensive saw this way. good luck

With my luck, I plugged in the saw this morning and it worked.
Vince from Grizzle said they will inspect it and if they find it works, I will have to pay return shipping and 10% restock fee.
I just sent him a long email telling him exactly how I feel about the problems I've had and that now I'm going to get charged to send it back...yada, yada.
I said if I am going to pay to return your junk saw then you might as well just pick it up and I will go right down the street and buy a 7x12" band saw from HF for $639 and call it a day. I don't need any more problems I just need a saw that will work without extra charges.
We'll see what happens. I hate being a jerk but I feel like I'm getting screwed over in some way. If I get the new saw for free, no upcharge And no 10% restocking fee then I will feel ok about it all

At this time, we would not be able to do an even swap for the G4030. The G4030 would be full price; however, the unit will be inspected prior to leaving our facility

They issued a refund and sent me return instructions. Problem there is that it says they will refund the purchase price.... Means I will be out $160 in shipping. "They don't refund shipping"
I don't know what to do, I've called and talked to three different people, emailed.....
So I guess I just bend over and take it!? I would like to say an F word right about here!
