Thread: PP50 Torch Ignition Problems

    Default PP50 Torch Ignition Problems

    Looking for some troubleshooting advice......

I haven't used my PowerPlasma 50 in a long time (over a year?) due to working on other projects. When I went to use it today, the torch wouldn't stay on. It would switch off, then typically come right back on in less than a second. This happened both when cutting and when just the pilot arc.

My first thought was a wiring issue with the switch, but movement didn't see to affect it.

    Any ideas would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Rege

Probably moisture or crud in the air line, also check the ground clamp although that shouldn't affect the pilot arc...so could likely be moisture or crud binding the tip ,,take it apart and move the spring loaded piston back and forth a few times,,,has a similar thing happen on mine,,,used it and it seemed to clean it self out after some use,,that's the trouble with things that aren't used and are left to sit , they tend to bind after a while.

Thanks. I'll give that a try. (I'm done for today, but hopefully I can try tomorrow night.) That would make sense, specially with the humidity so high.

The humidity make me think that I should add a desiccant dry to my current water trap too. Probably makes even more sense to do that after I've finished the CNC table.

It was a dirty switch contact.

After connecting a meter to the switch contacts, I found that the connection would cut in and out. After about 20 or 30 trigger pulls, it seems to be working properly now.
