Thread: Package

  1. Default Package

    Hello friends from Everlast forum.

My name is Marcio, I am a computer engineer and I always loved welding. I live in Brazil and things here are much more difficult to have access, like TIG welding. Machines are really expensive and it is pretty HARD to find someone who knows it. Basically Oxy-Acetylene is the precise welding here. Period.

I usually go to USA once a year, and this time I am planning to purchase a Power Tig 200DX. I believe it has everything I will ever need.
I am just concerned to one thing: having it transported by airplane. Have you seen the way baggages are treated? I talked to Mr. Oleg by e-mail and he told that a few people have done it. But I still fell afraid.

Would it be possible to anyone who still has a machine close to that to send me a picture of the package??
That will help me a lot to determine whether I put the unit inside a suitcase or if I have it as a checked baggage on it's original package.

    Thank you very much.

PS. Am I the only crazy who dreams with a welding machine?

The machine dimensions are 9”Wx24”Lx17”H, but the box it ships in is very sturdy *and* bigger than the machine to include a box of parts (cables, clamps, torch, etc.). I bet a call to Everlast's shipping department would be the best bet to get the outside dimensions of the box.

Also, you might call the airline to see what options are available: it might classify as carry-on luggage, which would be ideal but is probably unlikely.

The box dimensions for the 200dx is 21" high, 16" deep and 25" wide. Also it is heavy. The ship weight is 85 lbs. There is no way it is going in carry on luggage.

The welder is pretty fair size but the box of parts is almost as big as the welder.

I guess it depends on the airlines... Size seems to be very close but looks like weight may be over on most...

This is not a complete listing... Just something I ran across on a search.

I would like to thank all of you for the replies.

I will call the airline (TAM) tomorrow, but I am pretty sure it won't be possible to have it as a carry on luggage. The weight allowed in domestic flights is 8kg, ~16 lbs, therefore the possibility is very remote...
As Oleg said, other guys did it. Since it will be a direct flight, I think it will be OK.

I was reading some threads in the forum and I realized that sometimes the machines are out of stock, requiring a long time to be delivered. As I will be sent to USA without an specific date and duration (usually not more than 10 days), I am afraid of not being able to purchase my Power Tig 200 DX...

Well, let's think positive. Everything will be ok.

    Thank you all again.

Talk to Oleg... If you buy one he probably can at least hold it for you. Or tell you how stock is doing.

Wow, I have a buddy from Brazil in the forum! That is great!
I have seen those videos, and what did surprise me was the fact that he doesn't use the Bambozzi machine, which is produced here.

I'm from South Carolina USA. I've never been to Brazil but I'd like to go there some day.
