I think this is what he was referring to.
Contaminating the wire with anti-spatter is probably not the best plan. There might be something that would be safe to spray on it, but I don't know what that would be. A lot depends on what you are welding, of course. For general fab it might not be such a big deal, but if you are stressing the weld to near limits or welding something that will be pressurized, it could very well be a big deal.
Long arc, short arc, heliarc and in-the-dark!
I got the wire today. It's sealed in a plastic bag inside the box and the wire itself is in good shape... but. Even though the seller went all out in boxing it to protect the roll, it's been dropped on the round part (like a tire with a flat spot) causing the center hole to be oval now instead of round. It's not too bad, maybe 10% compressed. The sides of the roll are still straight.
Anyone know how to get the center hole back round without causing more problems ?

I went out to the shop and tapped a 2" pipe into the center of the spool, put a wood block against the 2 bent spokes and knocked them straight, then bumped the outside ring with a rubber hammer and got it to good enough.
I think it'll feed OK now but I'll have to wait for a cooler day to find out... I'm addicted to A/C and my shop isn't finished yet.

Rare we have wire around long enough to rust, but we have the same environment as Mark, actually a little worse. But sometimes a MIG will get ignored like the IMIG200 now that we have the 205P and we will open it and see rust on the wire. Outside of the spool only and we use the copper coated. It does rust.
We use, I think Eagle brand spray. I think I will try out Rod idea on the 200 and see if it works. Great idea Rod. My brand for sure is not soap. It is a pain to get/clean off even with acetone.
Also I read Radnor has a water base spray 1630 that is good. Maybe I will give it a try.
